I know that children in foster care often don't have positive male role models. This made me realize that I could contribute a lot by being a CASA Advocate.

Each year, approximately XXX abused or neglected children and youth in Contra Costa County come under the court's care because they are unable to live safely at home. CASA Advocates volunteer one-on-one for these children and youth in foster care to make sure they do not get lost in the over-burdened legal system or languish in an inappropriate placement.

In addition to advocacy, CASA of Contra Costa County is committed to:
• providing a therapy program that works in partnership with A Home Within to provide teletherapy to foster youth throughout California.
• providing a tutoring program that recruits, trains, and supports volunteers with educational backgrounds to provide tutoring services to our foster children. This support allows CASA to ensure that 100% of our youth complete their high school education.
• recruiting, training, and supporting volunteers through the CASA Juvenile Justice Program to work with youth in the juvenile justice system (who are also foster youth) to ensure compliance with probation requirements and complete their education.
• working in partnership with the Department of Public Health and Children and Family Services to provide reproductive health care to foster youth through the CASA Reproductive Health Program.

These programs work to help children and youth avoid a life of poverty as adults and to avoid the foster care-to-prison pipeline.
