CASS Housing

Empowering adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities through housing and life skills education.

For many families, one question never goes away:

What happens when my loved one can no longer live at home?

CASS Housing exists to help answer that question.

We create innovative housing solutions and independent living education that empower adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities to maximize their potential and grow in their independence.

Today, CASS provides housing and independent living education for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Northeast Indiana.

Our Two Pillars

Housing

CASS provides long-term housing designed specifically for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

The adults we serve are known as Core Members. Whether participating in housing, CASS Academy, or community programs, Core Members are at the center of everything we do.

Within our housing model, Core Members live in private apartments while sharing community spaces with one another. Rather than being placed with strangers, Core Members are intentionally matched with peers who share a vision for life together.

Every home is supported by a CASS Steward—a trusted neighbor who lives adjacent to the residents and provides daily check-ins, weekly connection, and monthly community outings. Stewards help create an environment of safety, accountability, and belonging while respecting each person's independence.

Education

Independence is built through practice, confidence, and support.

Through CASS Academy, adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities develop practical life skills that help them prepare for life's next steps.

Our programs focus on:

  • Safety at home and in the community
  • Cooking and housekeeping
  • Financial skills
  • Healthy relationships
  • Community engagement, recreation, transportation, and vocation

Participants can engage through structured cohorts or focused small-group learning opportunities based on their needs and learning styles.

Community Matters

At CASS, we believe meaningful lives are built through meaningful relationships and opportunities to contribute.

Whether they live in a CASS home, participate in CASS Academy, or both, Core Members are encouraged to be active members of their communities.

Through housing, educational programming, and our CASS Cares volunteer initiative, Core Members build relationships, serve others, and share their gifts and talents. They are neighbors, friends, volunteers, employees, and engaged citizens.

We believe adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities should be recognized not for their limitations, but for the value they bring to the communities around them.

Why CASS Is Different

We believe adults with disabilities deserve more than services—they deserve community, choice, dignity, and opportunities to grow.

By combining housing and education, CASS creates a pathway toward greater independence while providing families with confidence that their loved ones will be safe, connected, and supported.

Your Impact

As a privately funded nonprofit, CASS relies on generous donors to expand housing opportunities, strengthen educational programming, and create a future where more adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities can thrive.

Your support helps build homes, teach life skills, foster community, and empower individuals to live fuller, more independent lives.
