Aspire Debate Rwanda (ADR) is a youth-focused, youth-serving non-profit organization legally registered with the Rwanda Governance Board (RGB) since 2018. Founded in 2014 by university students passionate about empowering young people to find their voices, think critically, and lead positive change, ADR has grown from a single university debate club into a national organization that advances debate education, youth leadership, civic engagement, and life-skills development across Rwanda and beyond.

At the heart of our work is a simple but powerful belief: every young person has a voice, every voice deserves to be heard, and every young person should have the opportunity to shape the future.

Through debate education, mentorship, leadership development, and skills-building programs, ADR equips young people with the confidence to speak, the ability to think critically, the courage to engage with diverse perspectives, and the skills to become responsible leaders and active citizens. We also create pathways for young people to access economic opportunities and provide safe and inclusive platforms where they can raise their voices, advocate for issues that matter to them, and contribute meaningfully to policy dialogue and decision-making processes.

With the support of passionate individuals, government institutions, development partners, schools, universities, and other stakeholders, ADR's programs have reached more than 50 secondary schools across 10 districts and 22 universities in Rwanda. Our work continues to expand, creating opportunities for thousands of young people particularly those who are often underserved or excluded to discover their potential and use their voices to influence positive change in their communities.

ADR has also pioneered and supported major national and regional debate platforms that connect young people across borders and cultures. These include the East African Universities' Debating Championship (EAUDC), which brings together university students from across the East African Community to debate critical regional issues, exchange ideas, and develop innovative solutions for the region's sustainable growth and integration.

At the Commonwealth level, ADR also supports the Commonwealth Universities' Debating Championship (CUDC), a platform that brings together some of the brightest young minds from universities across the Commonwealth. Through open dialogue and rigorous debate, participants challenge assumptions, explore complex global issues, and generate new perspectives that can contribute to shaping a more inclusive, resilient, and prosperous Commonwealth.

Our vision extends beyond teaching young people how to debate. We are building a generation of confident thinkers, courageous communicators, responsible citizens, and transformative leaders.

Yet, across Rwanda and many other communities, too many young people still lack access to the platforms, mentorship, and opportunities they need to develop their potential and make their voices heard.

This is where your support can make a lasting difference. By investing in Aspire Debate Rwanda, you are not simply supporting a debate program. You are investing in the potential of a young person who may become tomorrow's community leader, entrepreneur, policymaker, educator, or changemaker. You are helping a young person find the confidence to speak, the skills to think critically, and the courage to lead.

Join us and become an active contributor to a better Rwanda, a stronger East Africa, and a more hopeful world.

Every voice of young Rwandan deserves to be heard

Behind every young person is a story, a dream, and an idea that could change the world today or tomorrow . Yet too many young people grow up without the confidence or opportunity to express themselves, question ideas, or participate meaningfully in decisions that affect their lives. Aspire Debate Rwanda is changing this reality across Rwanda. Through debate education, we help young people in rural schools find their voices and develop the courage to use them. We nurture critical thinkers who can listen to different perspectives, engage respectfully with others, and lead positive change in their schools and communities. Your support can open the door for 600 young people in rural areas to discover their potential in the September 2026 cohort. Give a young person the confidence to speak . The skills to think . The courage to lead. Donate to Aspire Debate Rwanda today and help ensure that every young voice in rural Rwanda has the opportunity to be heard.

Empowering the Next Oboma Generation in Rwanda

Imagine having a powerful story to tell, an idea that could inspire, persuade, or lead change but lacking the voice or confidence to share it. This is the silent struggle faced by many young Rwandans who dream of making a difference but are held back by limited public speaking and debating skills. At Aspire Debate Rwanda , we believe that when young people are equipped with the tools to communicate effectively, they become leaders, innovators, and change-makers in their communities. We have seen how debate transforms self-doubt into confidence, and silence into powerful advocacy. But today, as funding sources decline, the future of this life-changing work is at risk. That’s why we are turning to you, our supporters, friends, and champions of youth potential. Your donation, no matter how small, even just $10 can help us continue nurturing the next generation of articulate, confident, and responsible leaders . Your support helps restore hope to a young person who dreams of being the “Obama or Ngozi Okonjo ” of their community, but just needs a platform and the right mentorship. Be the spark that lights their path. Join us and keep their dreams alive.
