From Givewell:
What do they do? AMF (againstmalaria.com) provides funding for long-lasting insecticide-treated net (LLIN) distributions (for protection against malaria) in developing countries. (More)

Does it work? There is strong evidence that distributing LLINs reduces child mortality and malaria cases. AMF conducts post-distribution surveys of completed distributions to determine whether LLINs have reached their intended destinations and how long they remain in good condition. AMF's post-distribution surveys have generally found positive results but have some methodological limitations. (More)

What do you get for your dollar? We estimate that the cost to purchase and distribute an AMF-funded net is $4.95, or $4.65 excluding in-kind contributions from governments. The numbers of deaths averted and other benefits of distributing LLINs are a function of a number of difficult-to-estimate factors, which we discuss in detail below. (More)

Is there room for more funding? We believe that AMF is likely to be constrained by funding. We estimate that AMF could use up to an additional $37.8 million to support LLIN distributions that will occur between now and late 2023.

AMF is recommended because of its:

Focus on a program with excellent evidence of effectiveness and cost-effectiveness.
Processes for ensuring that nets reach their intended recipients and monitoring whether they remain in homes and in good condition over the long-term.
Room for more funding – we believe AMF will be able to use additional funds to deliver additional nets.
Transparency – AMF shares significant information about its work with us and we are able to closely follow and understand its work.

NetHackathon Benefit for the Against Malaria Foundation

What the Against Malaria Foundation does They help protect people from malaria. They fund anti-malaria nets, specifically long-lasting insecticidal nets (LLINs), and work with distribution partners to ensure they are used. They track and report on net use and impact. 100% of the funds they receive from the public buys nets. They achieve this because they have a significant level of pro bono support from organizations and individuals. This is the seventh NetHackathon overall and the third event where we have been able to raise money for charities. Every event has been a great success due to the participants and community; however, being able to raise money for charity at the same time as we have a great time (and, sometimes, ascensions) has made the event even more special.

Multi-Charity Fundraiser with Matching

I found out about every.org when they ran a site-wide donation matching program a while ago. I appreciated the idea of being able to leverage my own giving that way and found the site to be trustworthy and easy to use. I have a hypothesis that when multiple charities are sharing one pool of matching funds, it creates an additional incentive for donors to participate. So I'm sponsoring one myself and inviting some friends to give. And any visitors who stop by this page are most welcome to join in! I've chosen six charities for a "test drive" of this cool feature on every.org. These charities all have a good evidence base for being considered highly effective in some way, but it is difficult to compare them to one another apples-to-apples since they work on a diverse range of issues. There are several other charities that I am very excited about too, so please don't interpret this list as being my absolute favorites or top recommendations. The cheesy image I've chosen is from ChatGPT-5. In my defense, anything I drew myself would have looked worse! It is meant to convey a connection between Jesus Christ and the generous use of both our hearts and minds. Jesus inspired this fundraiser by encouraging us to love God and our neighbors, with all our hearts and all our minds, as He loved us. In the modern era, we have a lot of great charities to choose from, and a lot of evidence to draw upon in trying to be wise stewards of our resources. Note: I'm a board member of Christians for Impact and invite you to check out that website for more information, but this campaign is not an official project of that organization, just something I am trying out as an individual.
