Supporting Youth in Their Horsemanship Journey

Not every child has the benefit of growing up in a financially secure household, but every youth deserves the chance to soar.

Working Equitation Oregon is doing our part to support young people who are determined to work hard and apply themselves. We've started a WE Oregon Junior and Young Rider Development team and will be hosting a variety of learning experiences to help interested youth gain the skills they will need to be competitive on the world stage.

Our first WE Youth Training Camp is taking place July 26-31, 2026. During this six day event, participating youth will receive instruction from a variety of accomplished horsewomen. They will learn the fine art of judging working equitation competitions (to help deepen their understanding of what is expected for high scores), and will have the opportunity to ride a variety of horses with different levels of training. The weekend following the camp, they will compete at two USAWE Licensed Competitions.

In January/February of 2027, members of the team will have the opportunity to travel to Greece, where they will participate in six days of intensive training on schoolmaster Lusitanos under the guidance of Portuguese horseman and trainer Pedro. Salvador.

We're planning additional training trips to Europe in March and June of 2027, with the goal of sending a team of skilled youth to the Junior and Young Rider World Championships being held in the Netherlands at the end of August 2027.
