Founded in 1998, the Ambrosoli Foundation is dedicated to improving health services by supporting the Dr. Ambrosoli Memorial Hospital and St. Mary Midwifery School in Kalongo, northern Uganda.  

**Our Mission:** The Foundation continues Father Giuseppe’s legacy by ensuring access to high-quality healthcare in Northern Uganda and improving health standards and living conditions, especially for vulnerable community members. Through the support for the hospital and school, it aims to enhance healthcare access and living standards while promoting local medical and management training for future autonomy. 

**Father Giuseppe**: Known affectionately as “the Doctor of Charity” by Ugandans, Father Giuseppe dedicated thirty-two years of missionary service to elevating the small medical dispensary of Kalongo into a highly efficient hospital. Alongside the hospital, he established St. Mary's Midwifery Training School, which has since gained official recognition as one of Uganda's premier midwifery institutions.  

**Focus area:** Amidst the challenging backdrop of historical conflict and ongoing hardships in the Agago District, Dr. Ambrosoli Memorial Hospital (DAMHK) in Kalongo serves as a vital healthcare lifeline, extending its services not only to the local community but also to six neighbouring districts. Despite enduring high poverty rates and infrastructural limitations that hinder healthcare access, DAMHK actively collaborates with the community to provide essential care, alleviate suffering, and instil hope amidst adversity.

Delivering medical aid where it's needed most — independent, neutral, impartial.

Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international medical humanitarian organization created by doctors and journalists in France in 1971.

In over 70 countries around the world, MSF saves lives by providing medical aid where it is needed most—in armed conflicts, epidemics, natural disasters, and other crises.  The people who work for MSF are doctors, nurses, midwives, epidemiologists, water-and-sanitation experts and many others who combine their professional expertise with a commitment to the world’s most vulnerable people.  Each year, these medical teams run close to 470 projects where they care for millions of people.  

As an organization, MSF is neutral and operates independently of any political, military, or religious agendas. It does not take sides in armed conflicts, provides care based on needs alone, and advocates for increased independent access to victims of conflict and disaster as required under international humanitarian law. Medical teams conduct evaluations on the ground to determine a population's medical needs before opening programs, aiming to fill gaps that exist (rather than replicating services that are already offered) or reach communities that are not being assisted.  Over the years, the organization has been the recipient of several awards that recognize its work, including the 1998 Conrad N. Hilton Humanitarian Prize, the 1999 Nobel Peace Prize, the 2012 J. William Fulbright Prize for International Understanding, the 2015 Lasker-Bloomberg Public Service Award, and the 2017 Pardes Humanitarian Prize for Mental Health.

Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) 

ConnectMyVariant's mission is to end hereditary disease by bringing families together.

ConnectMyVariant is an educational health-focused 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that supports individuals and families with hereditary disease in their early detection and prevention efforts. We provide unique value by leveraging our evidenced-based family connection protocols to help people identify other at-risk relatives and help those relatives access genetic testing so that they can get optimal medical care. ConnectMyVariant brings people with the same genetic risk together through our variant database and community engagement events to share experiences and find common ancestors. ConnectMyVariant also works to increase awareness of the benefits of family outreach among physicians, others who provide prevention care, and the broader genealogy community.
 
Our key activities are:

- Working with patients to implement personalized family outreach plans
- Interactive educational workshops about sharing information on inherited disease risk
- Variant specific family reunions to share stories and plan outreach to cousins
- Genealogy assistance to help connect individuals in variant groups
- Individual equity and inclusion grants for family and community outreach

Need and Impact:
When hereditary disease risk is known, family outreach has been proven to be the most effective and cost-effective intervention for early detection and prevention. This family outreach, also known as cascade testing, is recommended by multiple guidelines. Despite overwhelming evidence, family outreach assistance is not reimbursed by insurance or integrated into healthcare. Many people suffer and die from hereditary disease that could have been prevented or caught early.
 
We have shown that our strategies to encourage family outreach can act as a communication multiplier. Our pilot research at the University of Washington showed that this approach enhanced patient experience, was considered ethical, and was appreciated by newly identified relatives. Our approach is low-cost and is 25 to 50 times more effective than awareness and education interventions that target the general population.

- **Impact-driven philanthropy**. This fund prioritizes the highest-impact solutions to challenges. We assess where the gaps are, which opportunities may be neglected by other funders, and where the biggest wins are in terms of making the biggest difference.
-  **The organization’s funding gap**. Not all organizations are set up to scale programs and some may not be able to productively absorb large amounts of unsolicited funding at any given point. -  **Organizational strength**. Particularly with unrestricted funding, it’s important to have trust in the leadership and capacity of the organizations we support. We look at their track record of success and their transparency about failures as well as successes, and we only support those organizations which are exceptionally well run.

**How frequently will you make grants from the Fund?**

In general, Fund Managers will review grantmaking decisions on a quarterly basis, based on the value of Funds and the available options for high-impact grantmaking. We may disburse funds outside of quarterly review dates if we become aware of a particularly promising and time-sensitive funding.

**How will my contribution be used?**

All funds are granted out — every dollar contributed to the Fund will be used to make grants directly to end-user organizations creating a real difference.

Training The Ketamine Training Center is recognized as the premier and essential training for ketamine practitioners devoted to psychedelic psychotherapy using the only presently FDA- approved psychedelic medicine. We are proud to be at the forefront of training in this incredible work. The Ketamine Training Center is the premier organization having provided training to over 1,100 practitioners in our 6-day residential retreat events. With more programs planned for 2025 in various locations across the world, we will have trained therapists, nurses, naturopathic physicians, and other disciplines bringing together individuals to function as teams and clinics.




Ketamine Research Foundation

KWO is an indigenous women’s organisation serving women and girls in our community in Burma and in refugee camps in Thailand.  

The Karen Women’s Organisation (KWO) currently has a membership of more than 70,000 women living in Karen State, Burma and in refugee camps along the Thai-Burma border. KWO is a leading indigenous women’s organisation working in protection and our programs directly serve women, girls, children, and the most vulnerable people in our community. We promote women’s leadership, gender equality and community ownership in all aspects of our work. KWO is active in four main sectors: Organising and Information Sharing Program, Education Program, Health Program and Social Welfare Program.  KWO is led and staffed entirely by women in our community. KWO participates in the struggle to stop all kinds of oppression of women and of children. We believe in a federal Burma, where all communities have gender equality, the protection and promotion of indigenous people’s rights, human rights, and justice. 


WHAT WE DO

Within our 4 program areas we provide: service delivery, advocacy, awareness raising, and capacity building threaded throughout our daily work and our funded projects. Our work varies from the delivery of hygiene kits for mothers with new-borns, conducting community health and nutrition education, to ensuring safe accommodation for women suffering violence, developing Women’s Protection Laws, to training young women from our Communities to become leaders. 

KWO believes that empowering women will help reduce human rights abuses and encourage an end to discrimination against women. We believe that women have a right to be properly represented in politics and society at large. And we believe that the whole community is better off when women play an equal role with men in decision-making. The 17 individually funded Projects which KWO currently implements in refugee camps and Karen State, run under our 4 programs, and have over 100,500 beneficiaries.

WHERE WE WORK
KWO lives and works in the 7 districts of Karen State, Burma which is in Southeastern Burma and in 7 refugee camps along the Thai-Burma border.

ORGANISING AND INFORMATION SHARING PROGRAM  - KWO’s Organising and Information Sharing Program provides services, advocacy and capacity building to support women’s empowerment, mobilize the community, and sustain the organisation. KWO believes that broad community and organisational education contributes to building a fair and tolerant civil society. We conduct training, events and activities around: women’s rights, indigenous rights, democracy, political awareness, a Federal system for Burma, child protection, human rights, project management, leadership skills, public speaking, financial policy and procedures, KWO policy, landmine awareness, etc.

The Organising and Information Sharing Program Co-ordinators are all Karen women who live in their communities. Work under this Program includes: to conduct community consultations to identify needs, share information in the community about the current situation, including through KWO publications, update KWO’s membership list, co-ordinate with the KWO Social Welfare Program to organize the distribution of humanitarian aid (food and materials) in emergency situations, oversee and monitor all funded KWO projects implemented in the area, arrange and attend meetings for KWO and our network, coordinate with other agencies on issues that affect the community, assist researchers and field trips for visiting individuals, advocate on behalf of vulnerable groups in the community, conduct individual and joint advocacy efforts on the local, national, regional, and international stage.  We currently implement 4 funded projects under this program.

EDUCATION PROGRAM 
KWO’s Education Program provides services, advocacy and capacity building to promote education in our community. We provide schooling where there are gaps in existing education mainstream services in the refugee camps, and in areas in Karen State. We particularly target girls in the community to ensure they have equal access to education, protection, development and care. We also place a significant emphasis on education that promotes and preserves Karen indigenous culture.

Our Education Program Co-ordinators are all Karen women and are part of the community. Every day they work to promote education, to identify children struggling at schools or at home and provide support to the family, and assist with school fees when possible. They monitor and support KWO’s funded education projects in their areas, visit all community schools and give encouragement to students and teachers. They conduct home visits and encourage parents to send children to school, and assist the poorest of the poor children to get into schools. They attend events organized by schools to share positive messages about the benefits of education for all. They meet with education leaders at all levels and advocate for inclusive education, improved child protection mechanisms, and the importance of girls education. We currently implement 7 funded education projects under this program.

SOCIAL WELFARE PROGRAM 
KWO Social Welfare Program provides services, advocacy and capacity building in all sectors of Karen society. We provide direct care and assistance to community members and we work to solve social problems in our community, particularly those that affect women. Due to the failure of Burma’s successive governments to provide care and security for the people, many ethnic groups, like the Karen, have established well-organised and high-functioning social systems. The KWO Social Welfare Program does a lot of the work that a free and democratic national government would normally be offering to the people.

Our Social Welfare Program Co-ordinators are all Karen women and live in their community. Their duties include: identifying and providing care to the most vulnerable members of the community including the elderly, people with disability or chronic illness, and families in trouble; providing assistance in emergencies; help to organize community events and ceremonies; home visits; build capacity and opportunity for women to earn income especially through traditional crafts; be advocates for the best interests of women in justice cases; fight for improvements in laws relating to women and child protection, justice system reform and better enforcement mechanisms both in the refugee camps and within Southeast Burma.

Overall our Program’s main area of focus is to prevent, and respond to Violence Against Women. Under the Social Welfare Program, and its funded project, we provide an enormous amount of training for women, for KWO leaders and staff, for local community leaders, and for the broader community. We currently implement 4 funded projects under this program.

HEALTH PROGRAM 
KWO’s Health Program provides services, advocacy and capacity building to promote better health in our community. Our Health Program activities address common community health issues, like nutrition and hygiene, and we focus on the health needs of women and of children. KWO collaborates with existing community health organisations to support local health workers, to care for patients and the community. We do not offer medical or clinic-based services ourselves.

Our Health Program Co-ordinators are Karen women who live in their communities. Their work includes: to advocate for better access to health services, accompany patients to hospitals or clinics, organise village and stream clean ups, identify health needs of the most vulnerable people and provide support in the home, conduct health education campaigns in the community, share information with families about good health practices, encourage communities to set up kitchen gardens, organise access to clean drinking water, improve village sanitation and the use of built toilets, promote KWO’s key health messages for women’s reproductive health, improve access to safe sanitary materials for all women and girls, monitor any funded KWO Health projects being implemented in their area, educate parents about good nutrition and childcare, advocate for recognition of skilled Traditional Birth Attendants, and for birth registration and birth certificates for all children. We currently implement 2 funded projects under this program.

Karen Women's Organization

LifeStraw operates the Safe Water Fund, a 501(c)3 project, to support the provision of safe water where it is needed most.  

The Safe Water Fund operates as a 501(c)(3) project, supporting the implementation of long-term, sustainable safe water programs worldwide. We partner with grassroots organizations and local leaders to identify and reach communities and families most in need.

In addition to our retail-funded Give-Back program, the Safe Water Fund provides safe water during humanitarian emergencies and natural disasters. We also lead special initiatives in the cities where our employees live, including at our headquarters in Baltimore City, and participate in Giving Tuesday efforts each year.

Why LilyPads Was Started

Our founder's family has spent much time at UVA Children’s Hospital (and Boston Children's Hospital) when their daughter, Lily, was little and fighting for her life. The medical care was excellent — but the days were long, the nights were sleepless, and the costs piled up fast. They often felt like they were alone and drowning.

That’s where the seed for LilyPads was planted.

They wondered, *what if there was a better way?*
What if families had a soft place to land — a real bed, a warm meal, someone to say, “Hey, you’re not alone”?

LilyPads was born out of that question. Out of the memory of sleeping upright in a hospital chair. Out of the hope that no parent would ever again have to choose between being with their child and affording a place to sleep.

The name LilyPads comes from the way lily pads float in stillness, giving aquatic life a place to rest, above the water. That’s what we offer families: a soft place to land, full of love and care.

Using urban surplus as a solution to ignored issues of rural India

Goonj, founded in 1999 by Magsaysay award winner Mr. Anshu Gupta, works on poverty alleviation, rural development, and disaster relief & rehab, by using the cities’ discards as fuel for wide-spread development work across villages in India, creating a barter between two new currencies - the urban underutilized material, and, the efforts of rural communities who work on the neglected issues around water, sanitation, agriculture, education, local infrastructure, access, etc. Working with a strong network of 600+ grassroots partners, in the last 8 years (2014-2022), they have reached out to more than 12 million people, facilitated 55,000+ development activities, and channelized more than 45 million kgs of material across 31 states & UTs of India.

Goonj

The FemInEM Foundation: Addressing gaps in reproductive health care while improving the careers of women in emergency medicine.

Founded in 2015 FemInEM is an educational and professional development organization that serves as a place to discuss, discover, and affect the journey of women working in emergency medicine. Through a website, podcast, and academic conferences, FemInEM positively addresses gender disparities, empowering all physicians to be more engaged in their work and better care for themselves and their patients.

For nearly a decade, FemInEM has connected thousands of women in emergency medicine and their allies, hosted conferences in multiple US cities, overseen the adoption of lactation support and maternity leave programs in numerous Emergency Medicine (EM) departments, hosted a gender equity-focused educational podcast, and advanced the careers of women physicians. This legacy organization connects pediatric and adult emergency providers across various urban and rural emergency departments (EDs) in all 50 states. From the outset, we have engaged in public health topics at the leading edge of practice and innovation.

In the wake of the Dobbs decision, we have decided to relaunch FemInEM as the FemInEM Foundation, to advance gender equity in EM while improving the care of female patients in EDs. Thank you for support our work.

An international women’s fund mobilizing resources for Black women-led organizations in Latin America to address sexual violence.

What is VidaAfrolatina?

VidaAfrolatina is an emerging international women’s fund that mobilizes resources and connects them with Black and Afro-descendant women-led organizations in Latin America that address sexual violence. Selected through a participatory process, these organizations provide culturally relevant healing experiences in their communities and launch initiatives to reduce and, ultimately, eliminate sexual violence. We proudly amplify the vision, wisdom, power and leadership of our grantee partners.

Without investment in Black women’s solutions for their own communities, the structural, intersectional issues that perpetuate sexual violence will continue on largely unabated and ignored. VidaAfrolatina strives to fill a void in resources to strengthen and expand the work of Black and Afro-descendant women’s organizations.

**Vision and Mission**

VidaAfrolatina creates a world where Black women and girls are free to flourish because safety and wellness are their everyday reality. We do this by connecting diverse resources, including philanthropic funding and capacity support, with Black women’s groups in Latin America, with a specific focus on organizations that provide healing services for sexual violence survivors and that create and lead systemic change to end sexual violence.

VidaAfrolatina

The Dragonfly Collective provides funding to birth mothers following adoptive placement.

The Dragonfly Collective was established to address the lack of support for birth mothers who have made the courageous decision to place their child for adoption. Post-placement, many of these women face significant challenges, including financial hardship, emotional distress, and a need for further education and career development. Our foundation aims to bridge this gap by providing comprehensive emergency assistance, ensuring that birth mothers can transition smoothly and regain stability in their lives.

The group will leverage every tool, connection, and opportunity to provide birth mothers with the support they need to thrive. Our organization supports these extraordinary women with essential resources, including living expenses, transportation, counseling, and education (including GED preparation, community college, and trade school), enabling them to secure a more hopeful future.

No matter who you are or where you live, intersectional gender stereotypes are hurting you and those you love. Through film, education, and activism, The Representation Project awakens consciousness, spotlights the cost of these stereotypes, and invites everyone to build a more equitable future. 

Millions of people have been touched by our storytelling and reached by our activism and resources. Jennifer Siebel Newsom founded The Representation Project in 2011 with her groundbreaking film *Miss Representation*, igniting a national conversation about sexism in the media. *The Mask You Live In*, Jennifer’s second documentary, showcased how harmful American masculinity can be for boys and young men. Her latest films-- *Great American Lie* (2019) and *Fair Play* (2022), tackled inequality in the American Dream and in the division of care and domestic work in households, respectively.  

These documentaries on limiting gender narratives have been viewed nearly 30 million times, with our film curricula changing the lives of over 2 million students. Siebel Newsom’s prescience has born true: that storytelling opens hearts and minds like nothing else, shifting attitudes and behaviors. This is culture transformation at its best and creates a more equitable world where everyone can reach their full potential.

**Why Its Urgent**

Gender stereotypes are a public health crisis. Two-thirds of young women have disordered eating. One-in-three girls have seriously considered suicide, up significantly from a decade ago. Boys who hold traditional ideas about masculinity are significantly more likely to bully and harass others, and to suffer from depression and suicidal ideation.

The dangers to our youth link back to harmful messages. For girls, these stereotypes form the root cause of body hatred and shame, eating disorders, depression, low self-esteem and low leadership ambition. For boys, they are the primary driver of depression, dangerous risk-taking activities, substance abuse, suicide and violence. By getting in front of the message, we can change the outcome.

- We educate students through our curricula, which has reached over 2.4 million students.
- We amplify the impact of our film and educational materials through hashtag campaigns (e.g., #AskHerMore, #NotBuyingIt, #EndRape, #RespectHerGame) that have reached 588 million people.

The Representation Project

Improving health in the Peruvian Andes by training and empowering indigenous women as community health workers. 

Sacred Valley Health is a community-based, public health nonprofit that partners with vibrant, indigenous communities in the Andes of Peru. **Our core purpose is improving  health and well-being in underserved, marginalized communities through a community health worker program that empowers local women with education, resources, professional development, and economic opportunities.** 

Sacred Valley Health works with **marginalized partner communities to increase access to health knowledge and health care while \***providing vocational training to women and elevating them as leaders within their communities\*.\*\* It is often the case in indigenous communities, like SVH’s partner communities in Peru, that older women viewed as community elders are a respected voice when it comes to dictating community norms. ​​Our vision is that by empowering cohorts of women with health education and vocational training and by providing culturally relevant health information and care to the vibrant, indigenous partner communities we partner with, we can help people living in these communities to experience greater health and well-being.  

Since its inception in 2012, Sacred Valley Health has trained more than 100 women as health workers, launched a very successful train-the-trainer program, and developed a customized, comprehensive health education curriculum for visual Quechua-speaking learners. Most importantly, Sacred Valley Health has become a trusted, reputable partner in the local health landscape - among community members, health officials, funders, and other nonprofits - by using a collaborative, participatory approach in their work.

Building a center for community health in Wadi Halfa, Sudan 


Nubia Health is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving maternal and child health in Sudan by launching and delivering community-based health programs. The Nubia Health Center will bring best practice in community health to rural Sudan and undertake the following activities: 1. Proactive search: Working with Muso Health, a pioneering organization building community health programs in Africa, Community Health Workers (CHWs) and community members will be trained to search for patients through door-to-door home visits, to connect them with care early.  2. Doorstep care: CHWs will provide a package of evidence-based life-saving health care services in the home. These include family planning, newborn screening, and treatment for children with malaria, diarrhea, and malnutrition. 3. Rapid-access clinic: The Nubia Health Centre will provide rapid-access, nurse-led clinics to see patients referred by CHWs. 4. Inpatient care: For those patients that require overnight care for interventions such as fluid replacement, intravenous antibiotic therapy, or observation and inpatient unit managed by nurses and doctors will oversee care.  5. Research: The Nubia Health Center will train fellows from across Sudan on building community health programs and develop the center's research capabilities to generate evidence on delivering healthcare in rural settings. Nubia Health aims to build a care model and facility that combines the best practices in community health with cutting edge maternal and pediatric medical care.

Saath founded in 1989 serves the informal sector through education, livelihood, health, & financial literacy and inclusion.  

Saath is a Public Charitable Trust, founded in 1989, with an aim to support those underserved. Saath in Hindi/Gujarati means ‘together, co-operation, or a collective support. The organization is dedicated to empowering the marginalized communities, by providing livelihood opportunities, access to health care, education, financial literacy and inclusion through varied interventions developed organically in a participatory manner. The goal is to build ownership from within the community to ensure sustainability and impactful transformations, especially for women and children.

**Vision:** Saath envisions inclusive and empowered communities and individuals.

**Mission:** To make human settlements equitable living environments where all residents and vulnerable people have access to health, education, essential infrastructure services and livelihood options, irrespective of their economic and social status.

**Approach:** Saath engages organizations, corporates and individuals from India and globally as partners and supporters. Saath initiated the Integrated Community Development Program, an undertaking that seeks to rejuvenate slums into vibrant neighbourhoods. Saath works with slum residents, children, women, youth, informal sector workers, and vulnerable people in urban and rural areas. It addresses multiple needs of the socio-economically vulnerable with one-stop solutions, through which slum residents have access to basic services for holistic growth.

**Saath’s Thematic areas:**

**Livelihood** - The livelihood programs at Saath focus on making individuals financially independent either by equipping them with vocational training (traditional and non-traditional) or supporting them through entrepreneurial support. Women have been at the core of this initiative. Till date Saath has actively supported **72,809** youth and women for vocational training. Out of which 5200 are successful entrepreneurs. 3,200 women have been trained in non-traditional livelihoods.

**Education** - Saath has supported almost **23,066** children through various educational initiatives.\*\*\*\* The three main strategies tailored to the specific needs of communities are:

**Balghar:** Launched in 2004 as pre-school spaces designed to provide a nurturing educational environment for the holistic development of children. Activities within these spaces concentrate on addressing a child's cognitive, socio-economic, physiological, psychological, and nutritional needs. Serving as demonstration spaces, Balghar complements government-run anganwadis (Pre-schools), catering to the same age group of children. The ultimate goal of the Balghar is to seek admission for the child into a mainstream school, to further her education.  

**Child-Friendly Spaces:** Is a vital initiative aimed at offering a secure environment for child laborers and the offspring of construction workers, addressing their comprehensive developmental requirements. Frequently left unsupervised due to the absence of parental care, these children are at risk of being compelled into child labor. 

**STEM Education:** Is dedicated to enhancing the quality of education in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics through specially developed Centres, equipped with hands-on learning material, an essential need for children from marginalized communities, particularly girls, who often lack opportunities to pursue these subjects. The STEM experience also presents to them varied career opportunities which they can now seek out and explore. 

**Health –** Health has been an integral part of Saath’s working since its inception, strongly believing that health has an implication on every aspect of a person’s life. Till date Saath has supported **8,22,040** through various interventions, health awareness programs and referral linkages especially focusing on reproductive and child health, vaccination, immunization, Tuberculosis and malnourishment among the vulnerable communities.

**Livelihood:** The livelihood program focusses on making indiviuals financially independent either by equipping them with vocational training (traditional & non-traditional) or supporting them through entreprenurial support. Women have been at the core of this initiative. Till date Saath has actively supported 76,788 youth and women through vocational training. 8,832 have been supported through Microentrepreneurship (ME) interventions. 

**Integrated Area Development (IAD) -** The goal of IAD is bringing together & empowering communities to address issues affecting the quality of their life. The program includes extensive mapping, identification of problem areas and prioritizing them on the basis of severity and urgency. All done in a participatory manner to build ownership from with the community. Committees are then formed and empowered to take these issues to the local government for redressal. 25000 households have been supported through the IAD and more than 500 problems have been resolved. 

**Financial inclusion –** The program aims to build a habit of saving among the community members, no matter how small the amount be. The intervention started in Rajasthan in 2016 spread to Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat as well. Saath has till date supported over **30,000** beneficiaries through various financial inclusion interventions.

We simplify access to care for patients by funding virtual abortion providers and clinics, individuals accessing telehealth abortions, and reimbursing local funds for telehealth abortion care, allowing them to focus their resources on people seeking procedural abortions in their communities.

In addition to direct funding, we partner with organizations doing research and other activism to increase access to abortions.

-Dismantling medicalized control of abortion and encouraging a world where abortion pills are over the counter

Zera Bolivia Foundation fosters indigenous-led education, enabling self-empowerment, financial independence, and social mobility.

**Zera Bolivia** is an Aymara-led foundation that hosts classes and events for kids as a response to colonial norms, championing indigenous self-determination—especially for women and girls—through transformative education grounded in emotional intelligence, critical thinking, self-awareness, and practical tools for financial independence.

We began in 2015 with a socio-emotional learning pilot at a women’s prison in La Paz, and have since grown to reach thousands of children, youth, and families across Bolivia’s nine departments. Collaborating with municipal governments, the Ministry of Education, and local communities, we co-create culturally adapted programs that honor each community’s priorities and values. Thanks to our community and donor support, we have provided training, world-class educational materials, and technology infrastructure to prisons, children’s hospitals, rural areas, schools, and grassroots groups—always centering local leadership.

From the “Qantatai” literature podcast to “Bolivian Thinkers for Everyone By Zera,” our initiatives celebrate Bolivia’s intellectual heritage and open new pathways for dialogue and growth. Participants often report stronger emotional well-being, improved academic performance, and greater economic opportunities. As we look to the future, we are developing our first “STEM for Indigenous Young Women” program in El Alto and across 20 rural provinces of La Paz, in partnership with India’s STEMED NETWORK.

There are around 30,000 women in Ethiopia living with devastating childbirth injuries called obstetric fistula, because they don't know help is available. An estimated 1,000 women suffer a new fistula injury every year. Catherine’s trailblazing **Hamlin Model of Care** - today replicated around the world - finds, treats and holistically heals these women, restoring their lives.

Women living with childbirth injuries suffer great trauma. Following obstructed labour, they are left incontinent and usually lose their baby. They are shunned from their community and live hidden not knowing help available.

In a single year, Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia treats more than 6,000 patients and perform more than 2,000 surgeries.

We also provide counseling and a range of vocational training to support nearly 1,000 women in their recovery. A woman's healing journey starts the moment she arrives at a Hamlin fistula hospital. She is given a Comfort Package containing a Hamlin blanket that has been lovingly made by a volunteer, hygiene items, a new nightgown and slippers, and a homecoming dress.

These are utter luxuries for the many women who arrive at a Hamlin hospital without shoes, wearing the only stained clothes they own. When they wrap themselves in their Hamlin blanket, they feel the warm embrace of people like you.

Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia's work is centered in Ethiopia, a country with one of the highest fertility and maternal mortality rates in the world. Our vision is simple: To eradicate obstetric fistula. Forever.

For more than six decades, Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia has implemented our world-recognized approach to the holistic treatment of women and girls with obstetric fistulas — severe injuries resulting from prolonged, unrelieved and obstructed labor, typically in the absence of skilled birth attendants.

In 93% of cases, the mother suffers not only dramatic tissue damage, but she also loses her new baby. Nerve damage and weakened pelvic muscles make many daily tasks unmanageable. And, women are also often ostracized from their communities – cut off from avenues to leading a full, healthy and happy life.

The Hamlin Model of Care – The World's Leading Approach to Treating Obstetric Fistula

Dr Catherine Hamlin pioneered an approach to treating obstetric fistula, including developing a new surgical technique, that dramatically changes the lives of women and girls — in some cases in no more than an hour.

The Hamlin Model of Care is unique because it is not just about repairing injury, but restoring dignity. Hamlin's Rehabilitation and Reintegration Program at Desta Mender offers counseling, literacy and numeracy classes. Additional programs for vocational and life skills training help women find sustainable employment or establish their own small businesses. Today, Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia is staffed by more than 550 Ethiopian medical professionals and five regional hospitals have been established to respond to the significant demand for fistula surgery.

To accelerate change for women in Ethiopia, our Project Zero teams will go from door-to-door, in every Woreda (district) to identify women living with historic fistula cases and organize care and treatment. At the same time, we will strengthen maternal healthcare services, to reduce the incidence of birth injuries, and increase awareness, so women have the tools and knowledge they need to give birth safely. Lasting change for women and girls requires building a workforce of skilled birth attendants. Through our Hamlin College of Midwives, we recruit women from rural communities in Ethiopia to learn the Hamlin Model of Care during a four-year Bachelor of Science in Midwifery program.  The curriculum is fully certified and includes the precondition that students conduct at least 40 deliveries before they graduate. Upon graduation, Hamlin midwives return to their villages – today staffing over 90 rural midwifery clinics in remote areas.

Our History and Our Present:

CHILA was started by Brian Smith, MD in the town of Chisec, Guatemala.  Brian served as a member of the Peace Corps in the region and witnessed firsthand the lack of access to healthcare for the population in the area.  Once he returned to the United States, he changed his vocation from engineering to medicine.  He entered medical school and became a physician while concurrently traveling back and forth to Chisec to build and open a medical clinic.  CHILA has grown with the belief that no person should die or be denied healthcare because of where you were born.  After years of providing care to many people in the region, CHILA was recognized as a nonprofit organization in 2019.

Currently, CHILA funds a small group of local medical professionals in Chisec who we pay to provide ongoing  and prescribed care for chronic and complex medical conditions.  Dr. Smith and a contingency of volunteer medical providers from the United States travels to Chisec annually to hold clinics in our Chisec location as well as a variety of villages in the region.  During these clinic days, we see cases of varying levels of complexity.  We are able to treat common ailments during these clinic days as well as establish longer term care plans for more complex and chronic issues.  We provide all these services with translators who can speak in the native Q’eqchi language.

The Afiya Center works to Transform the lives, health, and overall wellbeing of Black womxn and girls.

The Afiya Center is a woman-centered organization that addresses the unique needs of Black womxn and transgender/gender non-conforming people (TGNC) through public health education, policy advocacy, and leadership development. We unapologetically advocate in the areas of HIV, maternal morality, abortion access and the decriminalization of Black bodies. Using a reproductive justice framework, we work to dismantle harmful policies and systems that directly impact the lives of Black womxn and girls.
