WOMEN OF COLOR UNITE NEEDS YOUR HELP!
Over the past years, Women of Color Unite (WOCU) has been tirelessly advocating for equity, visibility, and opportunities in the entertainment industry, but we need your support to continue this vital work.
Unfortunately, our donations fell by a whopping 90%. Many in Hollywood have capitulated to anti DEI rhetoric. Black women and WOC have lost their jobs. In California, some of our members have lost their homes in the Altadena fires, which understandably, became the focus of many grants. Our resources have been stretched to the limit trying to support our membership through these most trying times. This funding loss has put many of our essential programs at risk which our members are counting on to help them recover from this devastation.
Despite these challenges, WOCU has made significant strides. In 2025 alone:
- We traveled to Sacramento to advocate for the expansion of California’s Film & Television Tax Credit, ensuring that more productions and jobs remain in our state.
- We have consistently engaged with legislators, taking them to coffee and lunch to highlight the realities of our industry.
- We organized community-building events at Soho House and other venues to connect women of color across various disciplines.
- We have continued to support #Startwith8, our groundbreaking mentorship initiative that has paired hundreds of women of color with industry professionals, resulting in increased job opportunities and representation.
Additionally, we started our own non-profit production company, producing our own content and working with collaborative parties. In 2025, we completed the RISE videos in collaboration with UCLA and APLA Health, supporting Black people living with HIV/AIDS. We created and launched our first vertical dramedy series, airing on social media in June 2026, and completed the second season of our Podcast, How Hollywood Works... Or Doesn't, speaking to luminary guests like showrunner Ben Watkins and studio boss Brenda Gilbert. As Hollywood shrinks and fears repercussions for supporting women of color in media, we continue to do the work and make our voices and stories heard.
These efforts require time, resources, and advocacy power, and without new funding we risk losing momentum at a time when our voices are needed the most.
Please donate today - and feel free to share this with others you think might want to donate to this program, or any corporate matching programs.
