About Udayan Care USA

Udayan Care USA was founded in 2010 by two Americans, Ricky Surie and Jesse George-Nichol, who were inspired by their volunteer experiences with Udayan Care in India. Witnessing Udayan Care’s unwavering support for underprivileged women and children, they created Udayan Care USA, a 501(c)(3) organization, to support this cause from the United States. Udayan Care USA is committed to providing a nurturing home and quality education to every orphaned or abandoned child, opportunities for higher education for young adults, particularly women, and fostering self-reliance and community contribution. Since its inception in 1994, Udayan Care India has received several prestigious awards, including the National Award for Child Welfare and a GuideStar Transparency Award, and has been accredited by organizations like Give India and Credibility Alliance. Through Udayan Care USA’s support, Udayan Care India continues to uplift disadvantaged women, youth, and children, focusing on the Udayan Ghar Program, the Udayan Shalini Fellowship, and IT and Vocational Training Centers.

  • New Udayan Ghar Home: Funded establishment of a home in Jaipur, Rajasthan, providing safe housing for 15 young girls and creating an education corpus for their higher studies.
  • Support for Udayan Ghar Residents: Supported 1,850 children across multiple locations, covering costs for housing, education, nutrition, and healthcare needs.

Skilling to bridge the gap to employment

India has one of the largest youth populations in the world, offering a significant demographic advantage. However, a large number of young people from disadvantaged communities remain excluded from quality education, skill development, and employment opportunities. Each year, many youth enter the workforce without adequate technical knowledge, digital literacy, or exposure to market-relevant training, resulting in unemployment or low-paying, insecure jobs. Udayan Care’s Skilling and Livelihood Program helps close these gaps by equipping marginalized youth with the skills, digital knowledge, and job training that employers are seeking today. The goal is to help young people find steady work and become financially independent. The program offers two parallel tracks of Digital Literacy and Job Specific Courses with placement support. The program adopts an integrated approach that combines technical training with essential life and workplace skills. Besides technical training, the program emphasizes digital literacy, enabling participants to use computers, online tools, and workplace technologies effectively. Communication skills, particularly English proficiency, are strengthened to improve employability in service-driven sectors. Additional modules focus on workplace behaviour, teamwork, time management, and problem-solving, helping youth adapt to professional environments. A key strength of the program is its focus on linking training with employment. Udayan Care works closely with corporate partners and employers to facilitate job placements through job fairs, campus interviews, and direct recruitment. Career guidance and interview preparation are integral components that ensure trainees are well-prepared to enter the workforce. Post-placement support is provided to help youth adjust to workplace expectations and sustain employment. Regular follow-ups and mentoring enable early identification of challenges and support long-term retention and career progression. The program has made a real difference, reaching over 35,000 young people and helping more than 8,000 find jobs through job-specific courses. As a result, recipients and their families have seen better incomes, more confidence, and greater financial stability.
