Improving quality of life of children and the elderly in India thru health and education
Sevalaya is a charitable organization since 1988, is headquartered in Chennai, India and doing charitable activities in Chennai, Thiruvallur, Kanchipuram, Trichy, Dharmapuri, Tenkasi, Thanjavur, Thirunelveli, Chengalpet and Nilgris districts in Tamil Nadu Sevalaya runs a free school, hospital, medical centers, mobile medical services, community colleges, old age homes, organic farming, gaushala and many other services to the orphan and destitute children, rural youth, senior citizens and animals. All services are provided free of cost to the beneficiaries.
Since its inception 36 years ago, Sevalaya has transformed 40 villages of Thiruvallur district, from 100% child labor to 100% literacy through quality education given free to 5000 plus rural children, providing higher education for 1800 plus students, housed and shaped the lives of 550 plus orphans, given shelter and dignity to 250 plus destitute elders, imparted skills and facilitated employment to 5500 plus rural youths, reached healthcare to 3,50,000 plus poor and needy rural folks, delivered relief, essential items and food to over 3,00,000 plus people affected by natural calamities and the covid 19 pandemic with your support.
Sevalaya has won numerous state, national and institutional awards. Among these are: National Award for Best NGO in Education & Skill Development Category, by SP Jain Institute of Management & Research in 2023, Best Old Age Home Award 2018 by the Social Welfare Department; Tamil Nadu Government Achiever’s Award 2018 by Thirukkural Ilakkiya Peravai (Tirukkural literary forum); Humanitarian Award 2017 by the Vice President of India and Lifetime Achievement Award 2017 by the Soka Ikeda college of Arts and Science, Best Social Worker Award 2016 by the Tamilnadu Government.

Education Sustenance for 2100 less privileged children
From 1991, Sevalaya’s, Mahakavi Bharathiyar Higher Secondary School, runs classes from Montessori to Senior Secondary at Kasuva village, Tirunindravur, Thiruvallur district. The school has strength of 2100 students. The children are first generation learners and come from 40 neighboring villages. Most of the children are from single parent, broken, downtrodden families. Sevalaya provides completely free high-quality education to the children. The children are provided free notebooks, two sets of uniform, and stationery each year from support of well-wishers. The Sevalaya School provides value education to help children become better human beings. At Sevalaya, we believe extra-curricular activities are equally important for holistic development of every student. Therefore, students are given ample opportunities to participate in extra-curricular activities such as sports competitions. The participation and performance of students in these competitions is a critical measure of overall development. Students have previously qualified for state as well as national level competitions.
