America’s largest food bank in distribution leading hunger relief in 18 southeast Texas counties.

More than 1.1 million people in the 18 southeast Texas counties served by Houston Food Bank are considered food insecure, meaning they lack consistent access to enough nutritious food to fuel a healthy life. In order to address this issue, the Houston Food Bank distributes food and other essentials to those in need through a network of 1,600 community partners. In addition, we also provide programs and services aimed at helping families achieve long-term stability including nutrition education, job training, health management, and help in securing state-funded assistance.

Amaanah's objective is to provide long-term assistance throughout the entire lifespan of our programs.

Amaanah's objective is to provide long-term assistance throughout the entire lifespan of our programs. From the initial stages of education and scholarships, through job preparedness and entry into the workforce, culminating in the full cycle of individuals becoming Amaanah Ambassadors.

Amaanah's focus is working with women and youth in the refugee community. We have the following programs to help support the long term integration of our refugee community: Teach 360, Lions Soccer Program, Big Sister Circle, Relief services, and Scholarships.

The teach 360 program is an in school support program for refugee students to focus on social, emotional, linguistic and academic support. This is a partnership with schools or the school district while tracking different data points to measure the success of the program.

The Lions program is a free soccer youth boys program aimed at building community through mentorship and sports. We have a dedicated group of volunteer coaches who train and coach the athletes. The program has been able to support students with scholarships for higher education as well. 

The Big Sister Circle is a program geared towards women in building community and also support the women through education. The women learn fundamental English grammar alongside meeting new friends in the community. This hybrid program bridges virtual community with in person life experiences. 

The relief program is geared at short term support. Amaanah can respond in time of natural disaster and support the community through supplies, care packages, financial support, and food support as well. We focus on holistic services to create a deeper impact.

Tegaru Disaster Relief Fund is a nonprofit organization focused on public safety, disaster preparedness and relief. It is based in Katy, TX. It received its nonprofit status in 2019.

Mission:TDRF works to provide urgent humanitarian relief and development assistance to communities across Tigray.

Vision: TDRF seeks to improve the quality-of-life through health, education and economic relief initiatives for communities across Tigray.

Our Beginnings

Tigray Disaster Relief Fund is an international charitable 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization.  The organization was founded in 2018 by a group of young professional diaspora Tigrayans in response to an increase in Tigrayan displacement from various parts of Ethiopia.

We got to work in 2018, providing immediate relief and support to families being uprooted because of ethnic conflict and political violence across different Ethiopian regions.

To be effective, TDRF mobilized efforts to collaborate with stakeholders on the ground in Tigray, while partnering with various organizations, such as the Bureau of Labor and Social Affairs of Tigray (BOLSA) and Keradion Elders Support Association.

Unfortunately, our work has only become more urgent since November 4, 2020.

The people of Tigray have been subjected to every imaginable weapon of war, including rape, famine, looting, and damage. The massive loss of life and grim picture of starving and brutalized residents slowly pouring out of Tigray have devastated TDRF. It's past time for us to step up our efforts. But we can't do it by ourselves. We require strengthened partnerships, as well as other concerned individuals from other walks of life and donors.

Providing support for people during natural disasters, cancer, education, and homeless. 

We provide immediate assistance and long support during natural disasters when people are forced to evacuate and/or their homes are destroyed leaving them in need of shelter, food, or water. 
We support cancer patients who are unable to pay for medical treatments, copayments, or after care assistance that may not be covered by their insurance. 
We support impoverished students who qualify for a higher education but cannot afford to pay tuition through grants and scholarships.  
We support the homeless by providing shelter, food, and water, as more people than ever are living on the streets without the basic necessities to survive. 
Our staff, volunteers, and those we serve work together to provide assistance to those in need due to circumstances beyond their control to empower the most vulnerable among us and improve their quality of life.
