I am honored to serve as Chair of the Board of Physicians for Peace (PFP), an organization I've been supporting with my time and financial treasure for the last 15 years. In collaboration with partners across the globe, PFP trains and mentors healthcare workers serving low-resourced communities worldwide, expanding their skill sets and surgical knowledge base to meet their patients' needs. This training and workforce development is greatly needed to address this startling inequity: of the 7 billion people across the globe, 5 billion lack access to safe, timely, and affordable surgical care, including anesthesia. Malawi, one of our long-term partner countries, has only 65 surgeons and 7 anesthesiologists in the entire country!
