Let's make financial peace of mind possible for immigrants

For many immigrants, hiding cash under the mattress reflects a deeper mistrust of a system that was never designed to include them. We built Out of the Mattress to change that, with free financial guidance designed by immigrants, for immigrants.
Navigating U.S. finances as an immigrant isn't just confusing. It's genuinely different, with stakes most people don't see coming. What you can invest in depends on your visa. Some moves that seem harmless can quietly jeopardize your immigration status.
That's exactly what our free four-week course teaches: what investments are available, what to watch out for, and how to start building real financial security, in community with other immigrants who understand their reality.
“I was very afraid of money. After the program, I feel more secure. I have a solid plan for my retirement. Now my money is invested and working for me .”
— Tálita Moreira
Right now, 22 immigrants are waiting to begin our 2026 cohort.
But to serve them all, we need your support.
It costs $300 to put one immigrant through the full program. Whether you can sponsor part of someone’s seat or an entire cohort of 20, every dollar moves someone closer to starting. Interested in funding a full cohort? Contact us.
By the end of the program, participants walk away with:
- A budget that actually reflects their life
- A clear plan across checking, savings, and investments
- The tools to start building retirement wealth, many for the first time
- A peer community who understands their experience
“I thought I was late to the game, but this program made me realize I can actually retire someday.”
— Mayne Giacomin
In 2025, 76 people went through the program.
By the end, 84% had opened a savings or investment account they built themselves. Compared to how they felt before joining the program, students’ financial confidence rose 63% on average, and financial stress dropped 36%.
“We don’t need to have money to start taking care of money. That was my mentality before.”
— Laura Neves
