NJ LEEP runs three programs that provide academic and social-emotional foundation building, support and networks for our students to get into and through college. Starting as early as middle school and working with students through high school, our College Bound Program has a distinct focus for each grade. Middle school focuses on experiential learning to build a rich bank of academic and social emotional skills that will support their growth and ease the transition to high school. 9th and 10th grades participate in a debate program to build critical thinking, public speaking, research and writing skills. 11th graders dive deep into test preparation and 12th graders get intensive one-on-one support on the college application and decision process. All students take part in life skills lessons, career exposure and a weekend writing program.
College Student Success helps students who have matriculated to college learn the skills and build the networks to thrive in college and build a path to upward economic mobility. Our newly launched School-Based Program is bringing a condensed version of our college access programming to high schools in Newark.
We partner with over 400 students each year and plan to grow that to 1000 students by 2028. Each year 100% of our students graduate high school, 99% enroll in college and of those enrolled 74% complete their four year degree.
