Educating Pakistan's Forgotten Children

The Children We Serve:

In the crowded streets of Punjab and Sindh, five-year-old children should be learning their ABCs. Instead, they're begging for coins, working in dangerous conditions, or worse are vulnerable to exploitation that steals their childhood and their future.

These aren't children who chose the streets. They're trapped there by circumstances beyond their control—born into families where parents work backbreaking jobs for wages that barely keep everyone fed.

The stark reality:

Without intervention, these children will become tomorrow's impoverished adults, repeating the exact same cycle that trapped their parents and grandparents before them.

Our Solution:

Education as Rescue

Network for Human and Social Development (NHSD) runs eight Kaus e Kazah Schools across Pakistan—but these aren't ordinary schools. They're rescue missions disguised as classrooms.

Right now, we're educating over 700 street children and orphans who would otherwise have no access to education. Many of our students have never held a pencil. Some have never experienced the simple dignity of wearing clean clothes. All of them arrive hungry for food, for safety, for hope.

We provide everything they need to succeed:

• Free education with trauma-informed teachers who understand their journey
• Clean uniforms that restore dignity and belonging
• Nutritious meals so hungry minds can focus on learning
• Flexible schedules that meet children where they are
• Modern curriculum
• Vocational training

Since 2012, NHSD has built partnerships with over 70 organizations including the Japan Embassy, National Bank of Pakistan, and The Citizens Foundation. We've been recognized by the President of Pakistan for our humanitarian work.

The former street children who are now freelancers, earning sustainable incomes and supporting their families with dignity. The 700+ students currently in our schools who will never have to beg again.

Network for Human and Social Development (NHSD) is registered with Pakistan's Charity Commission, PCP, and EAD. We've been doing this work since 2012, building trust and delivering results across disaster response, education, health, women's empowerment, and sustainable livelihoods.
