Bullfighting is in decline — but what happens to the bulls?

For centuries, Spanish fighting bulls and cows have been bred for spectacle. Today, as bullfighting faces bans and shrinking audiences, thousands of these animals face an uncertain future: abandonment, slaughter, or being recycled into other forms of cruel entertainment.

At Namigni Animal Sanctuary, we believe that simply banning bullfighting is not enough. The real measure of progress is ensuring that these animals — one of the oldest and semi-wildest cattle breeds on Earth — are protected, respected, and preserved.

We are already proving it’s possible: 11 Spanish fighting bulls and cows live under our care, rescued from abandonment or slaughter. Each day, we fight to give them the life they deserve. But to truly build a post-bullfighting world, we must go further — and we need your help.

1. Rescue & Care

We rescue Spanish fighting bulls and cows who are at risk of being abandoned or sent to slaughter. They are majestic, sensitive beings — and protecting them is both urgent and essential. With every donation, you help us provide food, shelter, and veterinary care for the 11 already under our protection, and for the many more waiting to be saved.

2. Constructive Dialogue

A real solution means engaging with the people inside the bullfighting industry — ranchers, breeders, bullfighters, and even promoters — and offering them a way forward that is peaceful, sustainable, rewarding, and constructive. We are creating conversations and partnerships that turn former adversaries into pioneers of change.

3. Smarter Policies

Bans alone create unintended tragedies: animals left without protection, heritage breeds at risk of extinction, and families in the industry left without alternatives. We advocate for policies that:

  • Protect the animals, not just ban the fights.
  • Preserve the breed as a living cultural and biological treasure.
  • Include and support industry participants in the transition, ensuring stability and collaboration instead of conflict.

4. Raising Awareness

A ban may look like a victory, but it’s only half the solution. Without a plan for the bulls and cows themselves, bans simply erase them from sight — often through slaughter. We are building awareness worldwide to show that a holistic, compassionate transition is possible.

Why This Matters

  • The Bulls Themselves: Without intervention, countless animals face abandonment and slaughter as bullfighting declines.
  • A Heritage at Risk: The Spanish fighting bull is one of the oldest semi-wild cattle breeds — a living link to history and culture.
  • Sustainable Change: True transformation requires dialogue and solutions that include those in the bullfighting industry.
  • Beyond Bans: Legislation that ignores the fate of the animals creates hidden tragedies.

We stand at a turning point. Either these animals vanish in silence, or we create a new path — one where compassion and culture can coexist.

How You Can Help

Your support directly funds:

  • Feed, shelter, and veterinary care for rescued bulls and cows.
  • Outreach and dialogue programs with bullfighting agents ready to embrace change.
  • Policy advocacy that ensures animals are protected in law, not left behind.
  • Global awareness campaigns to mobilize support for this historic transition.

Every donation helps us expand our sanctuary, rescue more animals, and give weight to the global call for a post-bullfighting world.
