Despite comprising over one third of the U.S. population, Black, Indigenous, and Latinx individuals are significantly underrepresented in Engineering and Computer Science (E&CS) professions and miss the higher earnings that come. This lack of representation stems from inequitable access to educational opportunities. For almost 50 years, NACME has been dedicated to addressing this disparity by mobilizing resources, raising awareness, and forming partnerships to create pathways for Black, Indigenous, and Latinx youth to pursue E&CS careers. NACME's leadership embodies a deep commitment to underserved E&CS majors. We provide comprehensive support, including financial aid, professional development, and mentorship, to equip students for success in college and future careers. Each year, we award over $2 million in scholarships to 1,000 E&CS scholars. We have served 12,000+ underrepresented students to date. Our leadership team reflects the experiences and perspectives of the scholars we serve. Many of our leaders, including our CEO, are NACME alumni who have risen to prominent positions in technology and engineering companies. Their personal journeys as students give them firsthand experience of the challenges our scholars face and fuel their commitment to supporting underrepresented students. By empowering underrepresented students and addressing systemic barriers, NACME bridges the gap in representation, improves individual self-efficacy, and unlocks the full potential of Black, Indigenous, and Latinx individuals in the E&CS fields. Through NACME's advocacy, leadership, scholarships, and holistic support, we advance a future of equitable opportunity and America's global competitiveness.
