We're a no-audition community chorus, created by and for those who love to sing in Upper Manhattan. 

ABOUT THE CHOIR
WHCC is a no-audition community choir, one of a handful in NYC and the only one serving Upper Manhattan. We're a lively, diverse, and welcoming group that loves to sing and believes in the power of music to spread joy and build community!

REBUILDING OUR FOUNDATION
Established in 2016 by a local church, we were disbanded in May 2022 due to budget challenges. A resilient bunch, we quickly regrouped and reestablished ourselves as a sustainable, standalone nonprofit. We've been on our feet for nearly a year and are determined to remain standing for years to come!

We are supported mainly by choir member dues, but they only cover about 2/3 of our expenses. Money raised will help fill the gap, and go toward paying our Choir Director, accompanist, music licensing, marketing and other administrative costs.

The Tanging Yaman Foundation is a non-profit Philippine organization which bridges the generosity of countless Filipinos. 

Tanging Yaman Foundation, Inc. (Tanging Yaman), a non-profit Philippine organization, was established in 1992 when Fr. Manuel "Manoling" Francisco, SJ first performed his original liturgical music with the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra (PPO). Almost every year, Fr. Manoling would perform with the PPO or the Manila Philharmonic Orchestra.

 

These concerts, entitled Tanging Yaman: Himig at Pananalig, graced the Cultural Center of the Philippines, the Meralco Theatre, the UP Theatre, and other major Philippine theaters. The concerts even went on tour to Batangas, Quezon Province, and Ifugao.

 

In addition to the orchestra, these Tanging Yaman concerts featured choirs like Bukas Palad, Hangad, Bungang Himig, Tinig Barangka, the Pansol Choir, and popular artists like Basil Valdez, Dulce, Ogie Alcasid, Ariel Rivera, Jamie Rivera, and Nolyn Cabahug. Apart from celebrating Filipino music and Filipino faith, the concerts also raised funds for institutions that build and nurture local communities.

 

Some of the beneficiaries of the Tanging Yaman concerts were have been the Sibol-Hesus School for gifted public school children of Mr. Onofre Pagsanghan; the Alagad ni Maria Youth Center in Infanta; the Quezonians Home for the Aged; the Kiangan, Ifugao Scholarship Fund; the Diocesan Seminary in Lipa, Batangas; Our Lady of the Pentecost Parish in Loyola Heights; Mary the Queen Parish in San Juan; the Ateneo de Manila High School Scholarship Fund; and the School of Living Tradition in Benguet.

 

Tanging Yaman Foundation, Inc. has then evolved from being an annual liturgical concert to being a conduit foundation, bridging the generosity of countless Filipinos here and abroad to the vital needs of their fellow men and women in the Philippines.

Lerici Music Festival, an annual classical music festival located on the stunning Italian Riviera.

A classical music festival inaugurated in Summer 2017 by international orchestra conductor Gianluca Marcianò, a native of the town of Lerici set on the stunning bay known as the Gulf of Poets. Until 2020 the festival was known as Festival Suoni dal Golfo and then changed its name to the more easily remembered Lerici Music Festival. Over its first 7 years the festival has grown, attracting an audience of international music lovers and realising the vision of the founder in several aspects:
* to bring beautiful music to a town renowned for centuries for attracting writers, artists and composers such as Byron, Percy Bysse Shelley and his wife Mary Shelley (the castle in Lerici inspired her novel Frankenstein), D. H. Lawrence, Wagner, Virginia Woolf and many Italian writers.
* to develop the careers of new, young Italian and international soloists
* to bring international musicians to work side-by-side with emerging talent
* to bring together people of diverse nationalities, cultures and background using music as common ground
* for young orchestral musicians to reach the local residents with open rehearsals, street music and outreach. 
The aim of the Festival has, through its spirit of inclusion, become a constant in the European Festival schedule and its ultimate dream is to create a small concert hall for the town. Performances take place in squares, villas, nearby villages and Lerici town hall and new venues are annually sourced to give the best environment possible to each programme.
The Festival is a member of the prestigious European Festivals Association.

The International Beethoven Project, est. 2008 as a NFP, celebrates the extraordinary lives & creative music of unique composers.

​​The mission of the International Beethoven Project is threefold: 

1) to celebrate Beethoven's music and humanist legacy

2) to make classical music more engaging, exciting and meaningful for all people

3) to serve as an educational resource 

By showcasing Beethoven as the revolutionary musician he was, we believe we can inspire new generations of listeners, performers and arts administrators to appreciate and engage with this art form. To do this, IBP has used many different approaches, from producing numerous events to making films, recordings and educational media.

Launching the "International Beethoven Day" initiative in 2021, IBP seeks to engage even more people across the world in carrying Beethoven's legacy of humanism and music forward.

Upcoming projects include a sweeping multi-media traversal of Beethoven's epic 32 piano sonatas that will include, in addition to recordings and films of the originals, music by contemporary composers and musicians inspired by the sonatas, along with readings of Beethoven's letters by actors and musicians and visual works of art to accompany the whole.

This project will be presented globally as well as brought to schools around the world.

IBP is also currently organizing the first-ever web3/blockchain/metaverse/NFT conference focused on the classical music sector.

From annual celebrations of Beethoven's birthday every December since 2010 and through his 250th anniversary in 2020, to multi-disciplinary festivals that have brought all the arts and many musical genres together under one roof, we have sought engagement across generations and society. 

"An event of world-class importance" (Chicago Tribune), IBP's Beethoven Festival has served as a showcase for what was possible in the future of classical music.

The International Beethoven Project has also produced several critically-hailed recordings, including a now-legendary album with a first-ever recording of a work by Beethoven, the Trio Hess 47, a top 25 on the Classical Billboard charts in 2010.

In the last few years, IBP has produced several music films and documentaries on Bach and Beethoven and continues to work on future productions. IBP's goal is to leverage the wide-reaching impact of audiovisual media to create novel ways of appreciating classical music's great classics, as well as inspiring contemporary composers and musicians.

2. The Next Stage Initiative: innovation behind and beyond the stage 

In 2021, FEDORA and Opera Europa launched  the Next Stage Initiative  to trigger change and recovery in the opera and dance field as a response to the shock of the pandemic on the sector. This initiative provides financial support and skills development to boost innovation through sustainability, inclusivity, and digital transformation.

The Next Stage Grants financially support projects that help create new industry standards and opportunities. Moreover, through the Next Stage Forums, professional development and trainings will be provided to management and artistic teams to boost knowledge sharing and peer-learning.  The first five recipients of the first edition of the Next Stage Grants were awarded this year. These transformative projects in the fields of opera and dance will drive innovation through sustainability, inclusivity and digital transformation. They involve 13 cultural organisations in 9 countries in Europe and were awarded €250,000, thanks to the support of a private foundation.

Set in the scenic mountain region of central Portugal, the annual  Bendada International Music Festival  (Bendada, Portugal) is a classical music festival that empowers young artists to fulfill their musical talent. Founded by Dr. Inês Andrade and Dr. Edoardo Carpenedo in 2016, the BIMF is an entrepreneurial effort to revitalize the interior of Portugal using music, arts, and education as a medium to bring culture, local pride, and economic growth back into rural areas. The Festival started as a five-day summer music festival in July 2016. Since then, it has grown into a year-round project, attracting students, artists, and audiences worldwide. The festival concerts and cultural activities take place in the Beiras, the interior region of Portugal, as well as curated events in Portugal's main cities of Lisbon and Porto, and the United States. At its core, the BIMF is a community where young musicians can learn from sought-after pedagogues and artists, collaborate and meet people from all over the world driven by the same goals, and showcase their artistry on stage in professional concerts. The Friends of the Verbier Festival first took shape in 1993, when a group of music-loving donors was inspired by Martin T:son Engstroem's idea for a two-week festival of classical music in the Swiss Alps of Valais.

Founder & Director Martin Engstroem calls his Verbier Festival "a waking dream"—a dream that would not have been realised without the consistent generosity and personal commitment of the Friends. Their support for the Festival as a whole, and notably for its learning programmes and major artistic projects, has been crucial to its rise to the top: the Verbier Festival is now one of the world's most renowned classical music events, blazing a trail into the 21st century. 

Each donation made to The Friends of the Verbier Festival fund at King Baudoin Foundation (KBFUS) is subject to a 5% administrative fee. These fees constitute costs to KBFUS to administer donations made to the Friends Association; they total less than it would cost to operate a U.S. chapter of the Friends Association as a separate 501-C3 entity. The Association is nevertheless grateful to donors willing to top-up their donations by 5% to cover these fees.

The Verbier Festival is an international classical music event that takes place each summer in the mountain town of Verbier, Switzerland. The Festival's mission is to build a community of exchange between great masters and young artists from all over the world and to be a leader in its field by providing meaningful music education programmes.

Launched in 1994, and now globally renowned, the Festival welcomes audiences with a distinctive and exhilarating blend of events, both large-scale and intimate. Audiences from around the globe come to experience music-making at the highest level in a setting that brings them close to star performers, rising talent and a complete process of learning, rehearsal and performance.

The Festival's Academy is its respiratory system—a laboratory where future talents are discovered and nurtured. It sets the gold standard for the training of emerging soloists, chamber and orchestral musicians, singers and conductors. Each summer, audiences witness these musicians in action at more than 100 masterclasses, rehearsals and performances. The Verbier Festival Orchestra has become a rite of passage for today's exceptional young orchestral musicians and the Academy's programmes for soloists, chamber musicians and singers include an impressive list of alumni from over 60 countries who have been engaged by the world's leading concert presenters since their time in Verbier.

The Brooklyn Orchestra is a symphonic ensemble dedicated to expanding the orchestral music repertoire and audience.

The Brooklyn Orchestra is a symphonic ensemble dedicated to new music, striving to focus on contemporary composers. Founded by composer/conductor Olivier Glissant, the group was conceived to fuse genres of music that rarely meet on the classical stage and to bring music from multiple cultures to the orchestral repertoire, in an effort to make symphonic music accessible to a wider and more diverse audience.

Since our creation in 2015 we have fought to achieve our mission of diversifying the orchestral and operatic stage and bringing modern works from different cultures to the classical mainstream, and have presented several new creations including multiple premieres, as we focus mainly on active composers.

Our 2023 Fall season included the World Premiere of artistic director Olivier Glissant's ballet LADJA featuring Yannick Lebrun, lead dancer for the Alvin Ailey Dance Company, as well as a World Premiere and New York Premiere of Philip Glass's SYMPHONY No. 14 (in the presence of the composer) and Aguas da Amazonia, arranged by Olivier Glissant.

We are also developing educational programming and creating performing arts workshops for children that will provide exposure to opera, orchestral music and ballet in order to encourage creativity, experimentation and a collaborative spirit.

We believe in education above all and in the importance of the Arts. Children are welcome to all our events for free, and will always have some time reserved for direct interaction with the musicians of the orchestra (and their instruments!). Our first regular series, SYMPHONIC SUNDAYS, takes place at the Old Stone House in Brooklyn on the first Sunday of every month.

Finally, part of the orchestra's mission is to create a community and make culture available to all. We are dedicated to increasing the artistic offerings of Brooklyn. To that effect we are creating outdoor summer concerts that will include film and live music, opera performances and more.

The Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation (MHOF) was inspired by the acclaimed motion picture Mr. Holland’s Opus, the story of the profound effect a dedicated music teacher had on generations of students. The Foundation keeps music alive in our schools by donating musical instruments to under-funded music programs, and providing vital services to school districts nationwide, giving under-represented youth access to the many benefits of music education, leading them to success in school, and inspiring creativity and expression through playing music.

Stringendo is a 501c3 organization focused on the arts. It is based in Poughkeepsie, NY and received its nonprofit status in 2009.

Stringendo music school nurtures a diverse group of young string players to become passionate musicians and accomplished performers.  Through orchestra concerts and fiddle gigs, in private lessons and summer music camps, students cultivate life skills: the ability to listen, to lead and, above all, to work together to achieve the extraordinary.

Stringendo maintains a generous financial aid program, and no student is ever turned away due to financial need.   We work hard to extend services into areas that have been traditionally underserved, and our most recent partnership with students in the City of Poughkeepsie has been wildly successful. Our PK Strings group offers after-school classes and musical instruments to motivated students in Poughkeepsie’s elementary, middle, and high school grades, teaching the basics and providing transportation to Saturday classes and Summer Camp, as well as instruments and meals when needed.

Tuition is always kept affordable, well below "industry standard," to make string education accessible to all.   As a result, our Saturday Orchestra program, Tuesday Fiddle Program and Summer Camp attract students from all over the Hudson Valley and beyond.   Our student retention rate is extremely high and many of our older students volunteer as mentors/counselors to our younger students as part of our "morning helper" and "fiddle helper" programs.   Once graduated, many of our students return, either as teachers, camp counselors, workshop instructors, or as visiting alumni, creating a strong and vibrant community of string players at all ages and abilities.     Our goal is to continue to expand our reach, to be sure that any child interested in playing a string instrument has the resources and ability to do so.  Donations received will help us continue to provide the high caliber of string education Stringendo has become known for.

Baltimore Chamber Orchestra's mission is to move, inspire, and educate Baltimore's community through world-class performances.

Baltimore Chamber Orchestra’s first performance, led by Maestra Anne Harrigan, was on January 29, 1984. She introduced the audience to a classical orchestra offering virtuoso performances that touch the heart.

From its beginning, Baltimore Chamber Orchestra has grown to occupy an essential niche in the thriving arts scene of greater Baltimore. The orchestra is the actual size for which the classical repertoire was originally composed. BCO remains a group of exceptional musicians who are passionate about their performances. Indeed, the orchestra strives to meet the same standard established at its inception in 1984: to provide accessible, high-quality, classical music with an intimate touch.

BCO’s 21st season marked the final phase of its search for a music director to replace founder Anne Harrigan. BCO selected Markand Thakar for the position of music director in June 2004. Maestro Thakar made his debut with New York Philharmonic in 1997 and has since appeared with that orchestra numerous times, along with National, San Antonio, Winnipeg and Charlotte Symphony Orchestras, among others. A frequent guest conductor at Aspen Music Festival, Mr. Thakar has shared the stage with some of the world’s great artists, including Yo-Yo Ma and Itzhak Perlman. Formerly music director of Duluth Superior Symphony Orchestra and principal conductor of Duluth Festival Opera, he was a long-time member of the graduate conducting faculty of Peabody Conservatory.

Jonathan Leshnoff joined the orchestra as Composer in Residence in 2007, and BCO welcomed Baltimore Symphony associate concertmaster Madeline Adkins as our concertmaster in 2009.

After concert auditions by four extraordinary violinists in 2018-2019 Year of the Violin and by unanimous choice among BCO’s audience, musicians, music director, and trustees, Baltimore Chamber Orchestra announced the appointment of Baltimore Symphony associate concertmaster Audrey Wright as our concertmaster, beginning in the 2019-2020 season.

BCO continues to achieve new heights. In recent seasons the orchestra has recorded three CDs that were released by Naxos, given five concerts on tour in China, presented a New York debut praised by The New York Times, performed on University of Delaware Masterplayers series, and hosted workshops for young conductors from around the world.

The orchestra comprises forty of the area’s best professional musicians. As the only professional orchestra with a subscription series in Baltimore County, BCO plays in the 973-seat Kraushaar Auditorium, Goucher College, where the audience is treated to an intimacy with the orchestra and soloists and to nuances and clarity in the music that can’t be achieved in a huge symphony hall.

Keys of Change is a charity formed by individuals who deeply believe that playing music can make this world a better place. Keys of Change aims to advance the lives of children and young people around the world through musical education and access to live classical music performances. The charity was set up in early 2011 by the international concert pianist Panos Karan, who works with three other trustees, all involved in music and/or education, and a growing number of committed volunteers in many countries.  ​ Over the past years, Keys of Change has brought classical music, often for the first time, to deprived or suffering audiences, in remote areas of the Amazon basin, Uganda, Sierra Leone, Kolkata and the tsunami-ravaged Fukushima area in Japan, as well as in Greece, Russia and London. Our music has brought alive emotions - fascination, happiness, tears of sadness – and generated hope and encouragement.  Wherever we go to perform, we also set up and fund musical education projects, working in conjunction with local music teachers. In Ecuador, we organise weekly guitar lessons for young people from deprived backgrounds. In Uganda and Sierra Leone, we have provided instruments and music lessons. In Fukushima and India, we have made regular visits to work with young musicians to improve their playing, and give them the opportunity to perform in joint concerts with Keys of Change musicians. In the case of Fukushima this culminated in the founding of the Fukushima Youth Sinfonietta, and organising for up to 50 young Japanese musicians to travel to London, to give a concert at the Queen Elizabeth Hall in April 2014, to Tokyo, performing at Tokyo Opera City in August 2015, and Symphony Hall, Boston, in April 2016.

We have all had times, when we pulled away from God. It’s in our sinful nature to walk away from God and toward anxiety, addiction, workaholism and pride. Regardless of the struggle, it’s in those dark moments that we need a reminder of who we are and how to get back on track. 

For Angie, she turned to drugs after losing hope for her future. Deep in depression, her pain got so unbearable that she tried to hang herself. But the rope broke. In a moment of desperation and anger, Angie cried out to God. That’s when she heard KAMB Celebration Radio in the background, and realized that God was there for her all along. That encouragement moved her to get help. Today, she and her daughter listen to KAMB every morning and are reminded that God’s love is enduring, and that life can be abundant.

Founded in 1938, Lucerne Festival is one of the leading international festivals in the world of classical music. The three categories "Symphony," "Contemporary," and "Music for Future" represent the focal points of the Festival's programming. The main festival takes place in summer from mid-August to mid-September and offers a widely varied range of approximately 100 concerts and related events. Each Summer Festival features a guiding theme that runs dramaturgically through the programming. The Festival presents a diverse array of formats, including symphony concerts, chamber music, recitals, debuts, late night events, and much more. 

Adding to the Summer Festival, are three short festivals: a spring residency featuring the Lucerne Festival Orchestra, a Piano Festival curated by the pianist Igor Levit in May and "Lucerne Festival Forward" in November, which is programmed by musicians from the Lucerne Festival Contemporary Orchestra (LFCO).

Over two decades, Prospect Theater Company has premiered more than 35 musicals in New York City, in addition to new plays and numerous re-inventions of classic works.   Reflecting its investment in the future of the field, Prospect leads a variety of developmental initiatives: including an annual Musical Theater Lab for emerging writers, and the IGNITE Series of new musical theater in concert. In 2020, Prospect launched the VISION Series of original music-theater works captured on film, created for online streaming. 

In recognition of its enterprising and risk-taking new musical theater, the company has received an OBIE Award grant, and its role as a community anchor for emerging artists that strengthens the quality, diversity, and dynamism of American theater was honored by the American Theatre Wing.
 
Prospect is dedicated to a bright future for the American musical.  We develop and produce new works, envisioned and implemented by emerging artists working in diverse genres and styles but share an interest in re-inventing the art form of musical theater for the 21st Century.

One of the most sought-after young artist programs in France 

This Paris-based opera company is dedicated to lyric repertoire from the mid-18th century to the present. Founded and directed by American conductor David Stern, it combines an ambitious young artists program and a versatile instrumental ensemble.  Opera Fuoco has been in existence since 2003 initially as a top-level period instrument ensemble and later as an internationally recognized young artist troupe.  David Stern, Katharina Wolff and the Fuoco team have developed a multi-faceted program to develop young vocal talent at a professional level.  Opera Fuoco offers a unique, custom-made experience to young singers transitioning from conservatory to professional life.  Singers are able to work with Maestro Stern, experienced vocal coaches and stage directors in various contexts ranging from masterclasses and recitals to large-scale performances with orchestra and fully staged opera productions. The repertoire spans not only several centuries but a variety of genres, from baroque to contemporary, including musical comedy and jazz.  Opera Fuoco has shaped its young artist program not as an academy but as a professional company for young singers engaged for a period of three to four years. In its 13 years of existence, Opera Fuoco's Young Artist Program has trained approximately 50 singers from 15 different countries. Our 15 current members come from 5 different countries, and candidates from the last round of auditions represented 34 nationalities. Opera Fuoco's activities are largely Paris-area based, with masterclasses held in prestigious spaces such as the Petit Palais and regular concerts at the Philharmonie de Paris and the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées. The company has also enhanced its international reputation by developing regular performance partnerships with the Bachfest in Leipzig, the Beethovenfest in Bonn, the International Telemann Festival, the Swedish Chamber Orchestra as well as the Shanghai Baroque and Beijing Music Festivals in China.

The Athens Conservatoire (greek: Odeion Athinon) is the oldest educational institution for the performing arts in modern Greece, founded as a non-profit organization in 1871, by the "Music and Drama Association "Athens Conservatoire - 1871"
The institution played a significant role in the advancement of music studies in Greece since day one. Some of the most renowned international musical personalities have graduated from or taught at the Athens Conservatoire, including conductor Dimitiris Mitropoulos (NY Philharmonic music director from 1951 to 1958), composers Nikos Skalkottas and Mikis Theodorakis, opera diva Maria Callas, pianists Gina Bachauer and Dimitris Sgouros and many others. Today, apart from continuing to offer to its c.700 music students the full range of classical music studies from the earliest stages to the concert diploma, the Athens Conservatoire is constantly expanding into new areas: thus, the Jazz Music Department includes leading Greek jazz musicians among its teaching staff and has already gained significant momentum, the Centre of Early Music offers new insights into historically informed performance to a growing number of students in collaboration with international institutions such as the Leeds University (UK), while a new program of studies leading to a BMus (Hons) degree in classical music performance is being developed in collaboration with Goldsmiths College, University of London (UK). 

Meanwhile, the first Drama School in Greece, also founded in 1871, has had a pivotal role in the advancement of theatrical studies in the country. Today, the Drama School of the Athens Conservatoire, member of the World Theatre Education Alliance (WTEA) – Beijing, is included among the select few top professional drama schools in Greece, officially recognized by the Ministry of Culture. The school students and its staff regularly stage cutting edge performances and cooperate with leading drama institutions abroad.

The Athens Conservatoire School of Dance, although established in the ‘00s, has been constantly expanding ever since and today features one of the few state-accredited Higher Professional Dance Schools in the country, complementing perfectly the Athens Conservatoire's wide portfolio of performing arts disciplines.

The Athens Conservatoire Centre for Research and Documentation, initially founded in 2015 to rescue from oblivion and decay our institution's extensive historical archives, is currently developing a broad range of research and editorial initiatives such as the preparation and edition of the first ever extensive History of Music in Contemporary Greece. The AC Centre for Research and Documentation participates and regularly contributes to international fora like the IAML (International Association of Music Libraries, Archives and Documentation Centres), publishes scientific papers and a magazine, and organizes various exhibitions, such as a major exhibition on the composer Iannis Xenakis in collaboration with the Greek National Museum of Contemporary Art.

Many other major Greek arts organizations such as the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Centre, the Greek National Opera, the Athens & Epidaurus International Festival, the Onassis Cultural Centre, the Athens Concert Hall (Megaron) and many others regularly invite us to participate in leading cultural events.

The Athens Conservatoire iconic building, located in the heart of Athens near the Presidential Palace and the Aristotle Lyceum, is designed by the famous Greek architect Ioannis Despotopoulos (1903-1992) who holds a prominent position within the modernist architectural movement of the 1930s and the Bauhaus School in which he actively participated. His work for the Athens Conservatoire is the only completed part of an ambitious large-scale cultural complex commissioned in 1959 by the then government for Athens. For these reasons, the building is officially designated as a "Modern Architectural Monument" by the Greek Ministry of Culture. Today, this recently renovated building is functioning as a unique and enviable cultural hub for various contemporary artistic and cultural high profile events.

At the heart of Narrow Ridge is our Earth literacy programs which emphasize: 1) immersion in nature as a deep reminder of who we are at the species level and as a means of nurturing a loving and reciprocal relationship between humans and the rest of the natural world, and 2) experiential learning in sustainable living as participants take up residence in a solar-powered lodge, engage in hands-on learning in the organic garden, assist on eco-building projects, and visit the eco-homes of members of the community land trust. Our programs promote a sense of wonder of and commitment to the natural world and community of life of which we are so privileged to be a part.

Narrow Ridge protects over 500 acres of rural Appalachian land. We demonstrate a variety of approaches to conservation including: our community land trusts**** where folks lease land from Narrow Ridge and agree to conservation restrictions, over 150 acres of wilderness that will never know human habitation, 10 acres of Natural Burial Preserve, and our recently initiated pollinator field and American Chestnut orchard.

P.S. ARTS is dedicated to improving the lives of children by providing arts education to underserved public schools and communities. P.S. ARTS is the only organization in Southern and Central California that provides yearlong arts education in dance, music, theater, and visual arts to every child in a school during the regular school day. Without our programs, children in these underfunded school districts would not have access to the arts. 

P.S. ARTS also coordinates with school administrators and parent groups to provide community outreach services designed to increase the community’s capacity to advocate for educational equity and to provide critical cultural experiences for the entire family. 

P.S. ARTS programs help level the educational playing field by teaching creative and cognitive skills to students struggling to overcome economic, ability, or literacy barriers that will better equip them to be competitive and successful people. Studies show the arts keep children motivated and engaged, and with the high school dropout rate in Los Angeles County as high as 50% in recent years, the children in our community need the arts!

c89.5 is a listener-supported, non-commercial radio station owned by the Seattle Public Schools and operated by professional adult staff and students in the electronic media program at Nathan Hale High School. The station is almost entirely self-funded: over 87% of its operating revenue comes from listener donations and local businesses.

Over 150,000 listeners throughout Puget Sound tune to c89.5 every week for a diverse range of music celebrating individual differences and focusing on the joy in life. The station reaches a broad range of listeners, with a high concentration in both the 18-24 and 45-54 age ranges. Over 30% of c89.5 listeners identify as LGBTQ+.

ACMS offers opportunities to learn the joys of music for all ages and skill levels. 

The Armstrong Community Music School was founded on the principle that a high-quality music education should be available to everyone, regardless of circumstances. At ACMS you might see a small child attending an Early Childhood Music class while across the hall a grandparent goes to her first ever violin lesson. For 20 years, ACMS has provided Central Texans of all ages and skill levels the opportunity to express themselves through joyful music-making.

In conjunction with the excellent music instruction provided in-house, ACMS partners with local organizations to offer free programming for a wide variety of populations. Collectively these programs are known as the Harmony Initiative. Each program in the Harmony Initiative is designed by faculty and staff to meet the intellectual and situational needs of the communities they serve, positively impacting the lives of underserved populations with the power of music. EAC promotes development of KESKUS in Toronto in which to further its charitable objects, and these include promotion and support of the arts, multiculturalism, preservation of literary, musical and visual arts and the welfare and education of artists. 

KESKUS will be a dynamic hub showcasing Estonian heritage and promoting Estonian innovation. It will be a vibrant gathering place for Estonians of all generations and backgrounds to connect, celebrate, and share Estonian culture and achievements with each other and the world. It is scheduled to open in the spring of 2025.

MJW cultivates young musicians through jazz education and performances with professional artist while embracing Jazz.

Presently, Memphis Jazz Workshop programs consist of our Masterclass Series and Elite Saturdays. The Masterclass Series enlists international artists to provide lectures, instruction, and performances for students. In select instances, students are also afforded the opportunity to audition for college scholarships with some of the teaching artists who are college professors. The goal of the Masterclass Series is to host eight sessions throughout the calendar year. Dates for the Masterclass Series are selected and scheduled based upon the availability of each teaching artist. 

Elite Saturdays affords students the opportunity for deeper instruction and learning through four-hour Saturday sessions. Students meet twelve Saturdays during both the fall and spring semesters with an additional three weeks in the summer.

Serving nearly 150 students from the greater Memphis community over the last two years, the Memphis Jazz Workshop has realized several significant successes. MJW graduates are continuing music education and jazz studies in many of the nation’s most prestigious colleges and universities. Students have not only learned the language of jazz, but more importantly, they have learned the language spoken by its people through jazz improvisation. Because jazz education and jazz pedagogy are MJW priorities, our workshops directly support and resource many local school music programs. The students we teach go back to their respective schools and their communities with a better understanding of the importance of this vibrant art form.

MJW is committed to college placement and scholarship. MJW student Ljuliana Thomas, earned a full Presidential Scholarship to the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA – one of only five scholarships awarded at that time. Ljuliana is an excellent example of how a Memphis student can aspire to bold opportunity with the right teaching, training and support network. It is for our students' benefit that we work in partnership with many area high schools, increase interest in jazz education in many middle schools, and provide the space for jazz musicians to assemble, jam, and pass the torch to young musicians.

Sixty-five MJW students have achieved (50) Blue Band and (15) Red Band at All-West through The West Tennessee School Band and Orchestra Association. Over the past three Ten MJW students have achieved superior All-State status along with other accolades.

In Memphis, STAX is the only organization that could be considered similar or competing. When it comes to jazz study, MJW is intentional in breaking down the theory behind the music and its history. All MJW instructors have a total of 365 years of performing and/or teaching jazz.


Memphis Jazz Workshop

A unique, cutting-edge, and ecologically sensitive multi-media art space and cultural ecosystem in Uganda.

Since its inception in 2006, Bayimba has been working towards the sustainability of its programming that has shaped Uganda’s cultural landscape and influenced a vibrant creative industry within the East African region. Championing platforms like the Bayimba International Festival, the Kampala International Theatre Festival, Amakula International Film Festival and DOADOA: a regional network of professional stakeholders. Over the years, more than 5,000 artists have shared stage at the Bayimba events, and more than 15,000 industry professionals have been skilled for the market through the Bayimba Academy.

Through its hard work, careful saving and individual givers – the organisation managed to acquire Lunkulu Island - a leafy 92-acre semi-attached island in the midst of a lush environment at the shores of Lake Victoria in Mukono and Buikwe districts, with an idea of developing it to become a cutting-edge multi-media arts centre that uniquely serves the creative community from across the globe. 

From 2018, Lunkulu Island purposely accommodates Bayimba’s growing annual festivals and events, contributing to the long-term sustainability of Uganda’s creative arts. The development of physical structures is deemed necessary to further provide artists with a holistic safe-space that will enhance innovation, collaboration and creative development in East Africa. With a combined community of all mediums of art, professionally presented in one space where visitors can get a comprehensive artistic experience, creating jobs for the youth, preserving the local culture to a year-round tourism eco-system – the Bayimba Centre will be a hotspot for entrepreneurs where art, culture, and sustainability intersect—a place where creativity knows no bounds.
