Emily’s Second Chance Starts With You:
Help her transform waste into food and dignity.
When you meet Emily, you don’t just see a young woman tending a garden; you see courage rising from the soil.
At 20 years old, Emily has already lived through the kind of heartbreak that could silence a future. As a survivor of sexual violence and a child mother, she was pushed out of school and left feeling invisible in her own community. For a while, her dreams shrank to survival. Farming, the one thing she had always known, seemed to betray her, too: the land no longer fertile, the rains unreliable, and chemical fertilizers drained what little money her family had.
But Emily refused to give up.
In 2023, she found her second chance when MEMPROW invited her to a training on agroecology farming that improves both people's and soil health. For the first time, Emily learned that the waste she once swept away could be transformed into life. Cow dung, banana peels, and ash became her compost. Chili and garlic turned into natural pesticides. What once symbolized decay now fed her garden and her spirit.
With continuous mentoring, Emily found her voice again. Today, she is not only feeding her family but also teaching her classmates and neighbors how to turn “junk into gems.” She gathers young women under the shade of mango trees to show them how to mix compost piles, prepare organic pesticides, and dream of a future where farming does not mean poverty, but pride.
One of her peers, Drabo, says, “I can now keep 30,000 shillings every season that I used to spend on chemicals. Emily showed me a way out.”
Emily is living proof that healing is possible: healing of the soil, healing of communities, and healing of a young woman’s broken story.
But she cannot do it alone.
With just $8,000, MEMPROW can:
- Equip Emily and 40 other young women with tools, seeds, and safe spaces to farm organically.
- Expand mentorship so more survivors like Emily rediscover dignity and leadership.
- Build demonstration gardens that turn waste into food security for entire villages.
Your gift is not just about farming. It is about rewriting futures. It is about telling young women like Emily: You are not forgotten. You are leaders. You are seeds of change.
Will you stand with Emily and help her turn pain into renewal? Together, we can raise $8,000 to ensure her story and the stories of so many young women continue to succeed.
