At just 17, Amina (not real name) is the head of her household, caring for her child, her younger brother, and three cousins, after losing both her parents. Despite the overwhelming challenges, she remains hopeful and determined. She dreams of gaining skills that can secure a better future for herself and her family. Her younger brother, in Primary Seven, balances school and farm work, determined to succeed against all odds.
Amina’s story is not unique. Across Uganda, especially in rural areas, teen mothers are forced to shoulder adult responsibilities, balancing childcare, household management, and parenting, often with little or no support. These young girls/women carry immense courage, but they need more than hope; they need skills, education, and resources to break the cycle of poverty.
Our project, “Teen Mothers Rising,” aims to:
- Provide skills training in areas like tailoring, agriculture, digital literacy, and small business management.
- Support education for children in these households through scholarships, school materials, and uniforms.
- Deliver essential resources such as food, hygiene, and childcare support for teen mothers and their families.
- Offer mentorship and guidance to help them plan sustainable livelihoods and futures.
