Nirmala’s life was never easy. Her husband was already married when he saw her. He found her beautiful, and because he was rich and had power, he forced her to live with him. She had no choice.
After living with her, he became extremely controlling. He did not let her step outside, not even to talk to neighbors. He was afraid that because she was beautiful, other men would look at her. She lived like a prisoner in her own home. After living with him like that, she had three children with him, all just two years apart in age.
One day, Nirmala was outside, giving water to her buffalo. A neighbor’s brother-in-law passed by and greeted her, "What are you doing, sister-in-law?" It was just a simple question. But at that moment, suddenly her husband arrived. He saw them talking and exploded in anger.
Without listening, without asking, he accused her of having a physical relationship with a and neighbor.
He picked up the wooden handle of an axe and started beating her. Then, he grabbed a hoe and hit her again and again. She cried, she begged, but he didn’t stop.
Finally, when she could take no more, she ran away. Over time, the pain and trauma overwhelmed her, leading to severe mental health issues, including hallucinations and deep emotional scars, but she had no home, no food, and no money. With no one to help her, she ended up on the streets.
For 13 years, Nirmala lived on the streets, suffering alone
The most heartbreaking part? Her own children no longer recognize her as their mother. They refuse to look at her. They don’t call her "mother" anymore. She still longs for their love, but she remains completely alone.
Now, Nirmala lives with her 85-year-old mother. For the past 13 years, she has been receiving care and support from KOSHISH, who has become the only guardian she has left.
