Art can change a person. A person can change the world.

Ithaca Murals is a grassroots movement using public art as a powerful tool for justice and community transformation. We coordinate murals across the city that reflect the stories, cultures, and values of the people who live here—especially centering the voices of artists who are BIPOC, LGBTQ+, youth, and people with prison experience. Each mural is more than just paint on a wall; it’s a declaration of belonging and a celebration of community vision.

With over 400 murals and counting, your support helps us fund artist stipends, provide mentorship, and remove barriers so that more people can shape the cultural landscape of Ithaca. Every donation helps transform blank walls into bold expressions of hope, resistance, and unity.

Our Mission:

Ithaca Murals is a network of people transforming gray walls into beautiful, meaningful works of art that tell the stories of the diverse people who live here.

We implement a cultural arts strategy for building our community stronger. We welcome everyone to be involved with Ithaca Murals while prioritizing the leadership of people of color, under-employed and working class people, people with jail experience, women, LGBTQ+ community members, youth, and anyone who is passionate about justice.

What would you like our cityscape to look like?
Watch out. This is an artist takeover. If you're lucky, your house could be next!

AME Zion Church Mural FUNdraiser!

Your donation to Ithaca Murals makes projects like this mural at St. James possible! We’re organizing to create a breathtaking new mural on the ceiling above the pulpit at Ithaca’s historic St. James AME Zion Church—the oldest Black church in Ithaca and a cornerstone of community and faith since 1833. Designed by local artist Jesse Wright, this powerful ceiling mural will honor Black history, spiritual resilience, and the unshakable strength of community. With your support, this sacred space will be transformed into a radiant work of art—inspiring all who gather here for generations to come. Let’s make history together. Donate, share, and spread the word! Video by Mina, Caleb, and Batu @st.jamesamezion @sunday.rebel @ithacamurals
