About "Turma do Bem"
"Turma do Bem" has already transformed the lives of more than 90 thousand people in situations of social vulnerability — the NGO offers free dental care to low-income populations with severe oral problems, focusing on two main groups: youths aged 11 to 17 and women victims of gender violence who had their teeth affected by the aggression. Behind these stories is the world's largest voluntary dentistry program, powered by a network of more than 18,000 dentists in 12 countries. They offer free dental care to those who need it most, restoring health, self-esteem, and new life perspectives.
National Context – The Urgency for Intervention (Source: IBGE - 2023)
It is against this reality that the "Dentista do Bem" program fights. The data shows the severity of neglect in Brazilian oral health:
- 11% of 12-year-olds have never been to the dentist, starting adulthood with a health deficit.
- 44% of youth aged 15 to 19 need urgent treatment for untreated cavities.
- The lack of intervention results in 14 million Brazilians who have lost all their teeth and 34 million with severe losses in adulthood – a cycle that the Dentista do Bem program aims to break.
Dentist For Good ("Dentista do Bem") Program
Turma do Bem does not just offer treatment, but an Assistance Program that changes the life trajectory of young people:
- The program prioritizes vulnerable youth between 11 and 17 years old, especially the oldest and poorest. By ensuring complete treatment until age 18, we are directly investing in their access to their first job with health and self-esteem.
- The dentists' volunteering in their own offices allows for curative, preventive, and educational treatment, including high-cost procedures such as orthodontics and prosthetics, which transform lives and restore dignity.
- Treatment is supported by a multidisciplinary team (social workers, psychologists, dentists) and a Service Center. This monitoring ensures the young person's attendance, service quality, and the program's success.
