Casa 1 - Shelter for LGBTQIAP+ youth in Brazil
About "Casa 1"
Casa 1 is a highly relevant social project dedicated to offering shelter to young people between the ages of 18 and 25 who were expelled from home because of their affective sexual orientations and gender identity. The project runs in parallel with the activities of the Cultural Center and the Social Clinic, with all services offered free of charge.
The shelter focuses on promoting autonomy and organization for young people who suddenly find themselves homeless. It works as a temporary foster home, and the length of stay is four months. During this period, issues of clinical and mental health, education, and employability are addressed.
đź’– The Importance of Your Donation
Casa 1's work is fundamental in providing a safe environment and the necessary support for these young people to rebuild their lives.
Your donation is vital to maintain the structure and quality of the support offered.
The cost of R$ 6,000.00 (approximately USD 1,180.00) represents the base semiannual cost per sheltered person, covering:
- Rent for the shelter space.
- Food.
- Transportation.
- Social support from a qualified, multidisciplinary team (clinical and mental health, education, employability).
By donating, you are directly investing in the safety, health, and future of a young person, allowing Casa 1 to continue being a beacon of hope and transformation.
Cultural Center and Social Clinic
In parallel with the shelter, Casa 1 boosts its social impact through other fronts:
- Cultural Center: Open twelve hours a day, seven days a week, it offers classes in English, Spanish, Portuguese as a second language, yoga, sewing, musical theater, martial arts, percussion, theater, and others. With universal service open to everyone, the cultural center aims to establish a relationship with the surroundings and promote safety for everyone who lives in the shelter.
- Social Clinic: Mental health is also a fundamental aspect and, therefore, since September 2018, the work of health professionals was expanded to offer assistance to the general public, in addition to continuing to work with residents.
Fundraising and Reporting Management: The entire process of fundraising, financial monitoring, and donor reporting is managed by Instituto Phi, which applies a 15% administrative fee on the total funds raised. Instituto Phi is a non-profit organization with 11 years of experience supporting social initiatives across Brazil. With growing international engagement, Phi offers robust technical expertise in project oversight and financial accountability, ensuring that every contribution is used efficiently and transparently. This structured and professional approach reinforces donor confidence and strengthens the long-term impact of each supported initiative.Â
