This matters to me because it’s personal. I grew up in Virginia watching families I cared about struggle with the very things our hub will address—safe housing, reliable health care, steady work, and simple dignity. My late mother retired as a public school civil servant in this same community we will serve in Portsmouth, Virginia. It is now the most dangerous city in the state, and too many youth, veterans, and seniors are slipping through the cracks simply because no one is consistently checking in on them that can help. The coordinated model we helped lead through the 100K Homes Campaign moved 105,580 people into permanent housing nationwide and contributed to a 44% reduction in hypothermia deaths in DC.
