Recent nationalistic trends and "Make America Great Again" policies have led to significant USAID funding cuts, threatening critical health initiatives in Sub-Saharan Africa. These cuts endanger vulnerable communities and undermine years of progress fighting disease and poverty.

Our "Split The G" Challenge takes the "G" in "MAGA" and expands its meaning. Instead of focusing solely on "Greatness" defined by national self-interest, we're splitting this G to represent a more complete vision of what true greatness means. We believe genuine greatness must include being:

- **G**enerous with our resources
- **G**racious in our approach
- **G**lobal in our outlook

There's also a second meaning to "Split The G" – it refers to the visual moment when perfectly splitting the G logo in the foam of a freshly poured Guinness. This connection is particularly meaningful because Guinness has a massive presence across Africa, especially in countries like Nigeria, Ghana, and Kenya, where it's not just a popular beverage but a cultural institution. These same regions are now facing the harshest impacts of international aid cuts.

All donations through Split The G support **GiveWell's All Grants Fund**, which provides funding to the most impactful global health and well-being opportunities.

GiveWell searches for the charities that save or improve lives the most per dollar. The All Grants Fund makes grants on a rolling basis, supporting:

- Programs that incubate newer health initiatives
- Organizational support for high-impact organizations
- Policy change initiatives
- Research and scoping for potentially transformative interventions
- Other cost-effective initiatives in global health

For donors who want to contribute to the full range of GiveWell’s grantmaking, we recommend the All Grants Fund. Donations to the All Grants Fund may be allocated to any grant that meets our cost-effectiveness bar, including funding opportunities outside our top charities.

This fund makes grants on a rolling basis, and is a good fit for donors who are open to multiple pathways to impact, including ones that are higher-risk.

Instead of a wedding registry, we would very much welcome donations that support the following charities. We chose them to balance two things we care about: doing the most good possible for people we will never meet, and taking care of the neighbors in the two cities we call home.

**GiveWell** – GiveWell researches which charities save and improve the most lives per dollar, then directs donations to those programs, like malaria prevention and childhood nutrition, with no fees taken out. It is our pick for maximizing impact anywhere in the world.

**SOME (So Others Might Eat)** – For more than 50 years, SOME has served Washington, DC's most vulnerable residents with hot meals, healthcare, affordable housing, and job training, helping people move from crisis to stability.

**PATH (People Assisting The Homeless)** – PATH helps people across Los Angeles and California move from the streets into permanent homes, pairing housing with the outreach and supportive services that keep people housed for good.

Thank you so much for celebrating our special day with us! We're forgoing a registry, but would instead like to direct that generosity toward making an impact through charitable contributions. Our charity of choice is **GiveWell**, a nonprofit that is dedicated to saving and improving as many lives as they can. 

Jack first learned about GiveWell a decade ago, and resonated with their academic evidence-backed approach to identifying the most cost-effective giving opportunities: malaria prevention, vitamin A supplementation, tuberculosis management, amongst many others. We have been giving every year since.
