Approximately 59% of Haitians live below the poverty line, and 25% live below the extreme poverty line. Poverty in Haiti is a multifaceted issue, stemming from historical factors, natural disasters, political instability, and economic challenges. The nation is prone to hurricanes, earthquakes, and floods, which devastate infrastructure, displace communities, and disrupt livelihoods. These events exacerbate existing vulnerabilities, leading to food insecurity, lack of access to clean water, and limited opportunities for education and employment. More than six million people in Haiti live in poverty, which means they live on less than $2.41 per day.
