France is internationally recognized for the excellence of its academic and cultural institutions, particularly in the fields of archival science, history, and the study of primary sources. The École nationale des chartes - PSL is the leading higher education institution in these fields. The School is part of the world-class PSL (Paris Sciences et Lettres) University, ranked among the top 50 universities worldwide: 28th in the 2026 QS (Quacquarelli Symonds) rankings and 34th in the 2025 Shanghai rankings.

Every year, many international students seek to study in France, drawn by access to unique archival collections and world-renowned expertise. However, financial barriers often prevent them from experiencing these enriching academic opportunities.

By supporting mobility scholarships, you enable talented American students to study in Paris, gain direct access to exceptional historical collections, and receive an education in a prestigious academic environment. Your support also strengthens cultural and intellectual ties between the United States and France.

These scholarships will enable an American student to pursue the following programs for one academic year:

• Master's in "Archives – Digital Technologies Applied to History" (Master 1 or Master 2)
• Master's in "Digital Humanities" (Master 1 or Master 2)
• A one-year introductory program ("visiting fellowship") in the Archivist and Paleographer Diploma program within the "Scholarship" University Diploma (DU). At the end of this first year, the student will be able to:
  • either obtain a certificate of completion for this introductory year;
  • or enroll in the second year of the University Diploma in Erudition and complete the program;
  • or apply for admission as an international student (entering the second year) to the Archivist-Paleographer program.

In September 2026, thanks to the generous support of the Chambrun-Lafayette Foundation, an American student will be able to take courses at the École nationale des chartes - PSL for a period of one year.
