Fondation de l'École nationale des chartes - PSL

Africa holds an exceptionally rich archival and documentary heritage, essential to understanding its history, societies and cultures. Yet many archives remain fragile, scattered or difficult to access, threatening the transmission of these memories to future generations.

To address these challenges, the École nationale des chartes – PSL leads a UNESCO Chair entitled "Archives in the Service of African Nations and Societies", part of the "Memory of the World" programme. Through research, digitization, training and outreach projects, this initiative supports African institutions and professionals committed to preserving their documentary heritage.

The Chair also develops innovative digital tools to facilitate access to archives, strengthen their conservation and encourage their dissemination among researchers and the general public alike.

The École nationale des chartes – PSL is a leading higher education institution specialized in heritage, archives and digital humanities, and a member of PSL University, ranked among the world's top universities. The Ecole des chartes foundation’s role is to support the development of the École des chartes’ activities and projects.

Your support is essential. It will fund digitization projects, training for local heritage professionals, the development of digital tools and the promotion of archives that remain largely unknown.

Supporting the UNESCO Chair means helping preserve essential memories, strengthening the transmission of knowledge and giving everyone access to their own history.

The Foundation supports Université PSL’s education, and innovation to tackle global challenges in health, climate, AI, and energy.
