Founded in 1950 as London Festival Ballet by the great English Dancers Alicia Markova and Anton Dolin, English National Ballet (ENB) has been at the forefront of ballet's growth and evolution ever since. English National Ballet brings world class ballet to the widest possible audience through performances across the UK and on eminent international stages including The Bolshoi Theatre and Palais Garnier. ENB is also leading the way in creative learning and engagement practice, by building innovative partnerships to deliver flagship programmes such as English National Ballet's Dance for Parkinson's . and Ballet Futures: The Pipeline Project . As a touring company, we have brought several productions to the US and have enjoyed meeting many of our American audiences and supporters. In 2021 we returned to New York with the full Company for the first time in over 33 years. It was particularly special to do so at the Brooklyn Academy of Music – one of the venues in our first North American tour in 1955. In February 2022 we returned to Chicago with Akram Khan's second full-length production for the company — Creature . During the last 10 years English National Ballet has introduced ground-breaking new works to the Company's repertoire, from Akram Khan's Giselle to Mats Ek's Rite of Spring, whilst continuing to honour the tradition of great classical ballet. As a registered charity we need to raise £3 million ($4.1m) each year to continue to take ballet to the widest possible audience. Your donation, no matter what size, supports the creation of bold, new work by leading artists and choreographers. English National Ballet New Work Fund
New works are at the absolute heart of ENB's mission: whether it is looking at the classics with fresh eyes, ensuring female choreographers are better represented on stage, or nurturing emerging talent, creating work provides new ways of interpreting ballet and making it relevant for everyone. Over the last 10 years English National Ballet has introduced ground-breaking works to the Company's repertoire, from Akram Khan's Giselle to Mats Ek's Rite of Spring - which have demonstrated the boldness of our vision to evolve the artform, whilst continuing to honour the tradition of our classical repertoire. New work has also been the tool that ENB has used to tackle the underrepresentation of female choreographers on stage by commissioning 29 works by women. Our programmes She Said and She Persisted were eye-catching, critically acclaimed bills of new work which have pushed forward the conversation about representation across the ballet sector. "A programme of three ballets by three women choreographers is a campaigning first." The Guardian comments on She Said Creating a work takes time, resource, and investment, however it can yield significant return by delivering co-production income, securing high profile tours in prestigious venues, and attracting and retaining international talent. It is also essential fuel for the wider sector; enabling employment to a network of freelancers, makers, and performers across the country, and providing the creative content which is central to ENB's industry-leading engagement, participation, and creative learning programmes . Supporting the New Work Fund Investment in the New Work Fund has powered our success and growth over the last decade. It is essential to make longer-term plans to sustain our international profile, retain our world class talent and support the vision of our incoming Artistic Director Aaron S. Watkin. In return for your support, you will receive acknowledgement and experiences that bring you closer to the Company.
