Help save historic sites that won't survive without urgent repairs.
Founded in 1985, the German Foundation for Monument Protection is Germany’s largest privately funded nonprofit dedicated to preserving historic monuments and cultural heritage. The foundation protects endangered buildings, landscapes, and historic sites across Germany while promoting public awareness and engagement in monument preservation.
With the support of more than 200,000 donors and supporters, the foundation has helped rescue nearly 7,500 monuments, including internationally recognized sites such as Aachen Cathedral, Burg Eltz, Bauhaus Building Dessau, Frauenkirche Dresden, East Side Gallery at the Berlin Wall, and Goethe National Museum.
The foundation supports restoration projects ranging from churches, castles, and historic homes to archaeological sites and cultural landscapes, often providing critical funding where public resources are limited. In addition, it leads nationwide educational and public outreach initiatives, including Germany’s annual Open Monument Day and youth programs (Jugendbauhütten) that connect new generations with cultural heritage preservation.
Your donation helps protect Germany’s historic churches, castles, townhouses, and cultural landmarks before they are lost to decay. Every contribution supports urgent restoration work, preserves centuries of history and craftsmanship, and ensures that these places remain living parts of their communities for future generations.
Together, donors make it possible to safeguard cultural heritage, strengthen local identity, and keep history visible, accessible, and alive.
