People seeking protection in Canada often come through the United States. It's pretty hard for many to get to Canada otherwise given the only land border is the one between the two countries. There are conditions that have to met to be allowed to cross to Canada, and it's not always as straight-forward as it sounds.

COMPASS hosts the virtual Canada-U.S. Border Rights Clinic. This is a legal clinic that anyone can access free of charge before they try to cross to ensure they have the right information and are properly prepared when they approach the Canadian border. Then, once allowed across, many find their way to COMPASS and get the vital help they need to navigate Canada's protection process and get settled safely in welcoming communities.
