Access to Border Justice: Virtual Legal Clinic

People seeking protection in Canada often come through the United States. For many, there is no other realistic way to reach safety, as the only land border is between these two countries. Crossing that border, however, is not straightforward. Strict rules apply, and a single mistake can put someone at risk of being turned away.
That’s why COMPASS hosts the virtual Canada–U.S. Border Rights Clinic.
This free legal clinic is available to anyone before they attempt to cross. It ensures people have accurate information, understand the conditions they must meet, and are properly prepared when they approach the Canadian border. Once they are allowed to enter Canada, many turn to COMPASS for vital support—help navigating the protection process and settling safely into welcoming communities.
Canada’s border laws are confusing. Fear and uncertainty are constant companions for people who cannot remain in the United States and have nowhere else to go. Our clinic provides free legal information, advice, and training so they can make informed, life-changing decisions.
They are scared.
They are uncertain.
They need safety.
You can help them find it in Canada.
A monthly gift ensures the clinic can remain present and available for those who need it most.
A one-time gift of $250, $500, $1,000, or any amount you choose helps COMPASS deliver critical services—at the border and beyond.
They have already come so far. And the impact is real: up to 90% of the people we help are granted protection in Canada.
Your donation will make a difference.
