Help a local mom!
A Community Fundraiser from the Homeless Resource Center A Lawrence mother is doing everything right. She's working. She's budgeting. She's leaning on community partners. She has young, school-aged children counting on her, and she has remained steadfastly committed to building them a safe and stable home, even through one of the hardest seasons of her life. Right now, she is in the final stretch. The hard work has paid off in real, measurable ways. She's close. But a small remaining financial gap tied to her housing situation is standing between where she is today and the long-term stability she has worked so hard to reach. That's where this community comes in. This mother is currently working with The Willow Domestic Violence Center and other community supports as she transitions to stable housing for her and her children. For safety reasons, her identity and personal details are being kept confidential, but her need is real and time-sensitive. The remaining gap is modest. It is the kind of thing that, with a little help from the right people at the right moment, could change the entire trajectory for this family. A Matching Challenge To help create momentum, HRC is putting up a matching contribution.
When we hit $500, HRC will add $250 form our "helping people" budget! Why This Matters Sometimes people fall into a crack that no single program was designed to catch. This is one of those situations. Traditional funding streams don't always cover unique circumstances, and when they fall short, community generosity is what makes the difference. This mother has not given up. She is doing the work. We are asking you to do a small part alongside her so she doesn't have to start over. Give Today Every dollar raised goes directly toward stabilizing housing for this family. Questions? Contact the Homeless Resource Center at director@hrclawrence.org or 785-691-7430. All identifying information has been withheld to protect the privacy and safety of this individual and her family. This campaign is managed directly by HRC.

DonateBrett's Birthday Fundraiser!
I turn 40 on May 30th. And honestly, I’m doing something that feels really scary to me. I’m asking our community to help me raise $40,000 for the Homeless Resource Center. That number feels huge. It feels vulnerable to even say out loud. But it’s also the reality of this work. Helping people costs money. Keeping the doors open costs money. Creating spaces where people can shower, do laundry, find food, community, recovery, hope, safety, dignity, and human connection costs money. And I believe with everything in me that it is worth it. I have given my life to this work. Not because it’s easy, but because people matter. Because I believe every person has worth. Because I believe community changes lives. Because I’ve seen people who felt forgotten begin to believe they matter again. Our 2026 operating budget is $360,000. We now have a staff of 6 people and we care for hundreds of guests every single week. At this point, we receive no city or county funding. That means this place literally exists because people choose to help us make it exist. I am the only fundraiser we have. There’s not a development department behind this. There’s not a big marketing team. So I rely on telling stories.
I rely on showing impact.
And honestly, I rely on vulnerability. This is that. I’m asking you to help us continue building something that is changing lives in Lawrence every single day. I want HRC to stay open.
I want it to grow.
I want it to be here for years to come. So for my 40th birthday, I’m asking for help raising $40,000. Whether you give $10, $40, $400, or simply share this with others, you become part of this story. Thank you for doing what you do so we can do what we do. This is what community looks like. DaretoHope
