Help War-Affected Ukrainian Kids with Autism Heal & Thrive

Dnipro is a major hub in southeastern Ukraine with a population of approximately 980,000, including over 174,000 officially registered internally displaced persons (IDPs). These families have lost their homes, security, and often loved ones.

Children make up about 15% of Dnipro’s population, totaling 142,000. According to the Ukraine Humanitarian Response Plan (Feb 2023), up to 53% of these children require structured mental health and psychosocial support. Globally, 1% of children are diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), meaning around 1,500 children in Dnipro may have ASD. However, most lack access to therapy due to financial constraints and the overwhelming burden of rebuilding their lives. The shortage of facilities and high cost of private specialists further limit their options.

Children New Generation, a local NPO in Dnipro, provides comprehensive support to children with ASD and other developmental needs. We evacuate families from frontline areas and house them in two shelters accommodating 256 people. In our shelters, we offer medical and psychological assistance, medication, hygiene supplies, hot meals, document processing, and help finding permanent housing.

For displaced children and the local community, we operate the Dream Centre—the only free facility in Dnipro providing specialized support for children aged 2–8 with ASD. Parents can access free behavioral therapy from trained ABA specialists and tutors. Built from scratch, the center has trained over 10 specialists and has supported 4,000 people since opening. More than 40 children attend daily, receiving therapy that helps them integrate into society.
