Why Amobaka Matters: A Story of 450 Children Waiting for Change
The Reality I've Witnessed
When I first visited Amobaka D/A Primary and Junior High School in Ghana's Upper Denkyira West District, I saw something that reminded me why I started this work. Over 450 bright, eager, resilient children from farming families sitting in classrooms with cracked walls and leaking roofs. Kindergarteners learning on bare floors. Girls walking dangerous distances to fetch unsafe water from streams instead of being in class.
I've lived through similar challenges. I know what it means when your learning environment tells you that you don't matter, that your education isn't a priority. That's why this project isn't just about fixing buildings; it's about telling these children that they deserve better and then proving it.
What Your Support Will Achieve
Every dollar invested in this project creates measurable, lasting change:
For 450+ Students:
- 6 renovated classrooms with safe roofs, reinforced walls, proper ventilation, and functional furniture transforming daily learning from an endurance test into an opportunity
- Clean water access eliminating the need for dangerous water collection trips and reducing waterborne illness by an estimated 70%
- 40-60% improvement in attendance, particularly among girls who currently miss school to fetch water
For Kindergarten Learners:
- A dedicated play and learning area with age-appropriate materials because early childhood development shouldn't happen on a dirt floor
- Foundational learning resources that give our youngest students the start they deserve
For the Entire Community:
- Trained local maintenance teams ensuring sustainability
- Stronger school-community partnerships through the Parent-Teacher Association
- A model that can be replicated in other underserved rural schools
The Investment Breakdown
Total project cost: $38,000 implemented over 8 months
- $20,000 → Safe, functional classrooms for daily learning
- $10,000 → Clean water infrastructure saving thousands of hours and countless health risks
- $6,000 → Early childhood learning environment
- $2,000 → Monitoring, training, and ensuring long-term success
Cost per child: Just $84 to transform a student's entire educational environment.
The Ripple Effect
When girls don't have to fetch water, they attend school. When they attend school consistently, they complete their education. When they complete their education, they break cycles of poverty not just for themselves, but for their future families and communities.
When kindergarteners have proper learning spaces, they build cognitive and social skills that determine their trajectory for years to come.
When classrooms are safe, teachers can focus on teaching instead of managing structural hazards.
Why I'm Committed
I've dedicated my life to this work because I believe that where you're born shouldn't determine whether you get a chance. These 450+ children in Amobaka didn't choose to be born into rural poverty. But with the right intervention at the right time, they can choose their futures.
This project addresses urgent, life-threatening needs while creating conditions for long-term educational success. It's community-led, measurable, and designed to last. Most importantly, it's achievable, we know exactly what needs to be done.
Join Us in Making This Real
Every child at Amobaka deserves to learn without walls crumbling around them, to drink water without risking their health, and to begin their education with the tools they need to succeed.
With your support, we can make that happen one classroom, one borehole, and one childhood at a time.
The children of Amobaka are ready. Are we?
