National Treasure - Acquisition Marcel Proust
Marcel Proust is considered one of literature's most important and influential writers, one of the most admired, commented, translated and adapted. His work has been translated on every continent and remains a source of inspiration for authors and researchers around the world.
An exceptional collection
BnF has the opportunity to acquire an exceptional collection of manuscripts, correspondence, drawings and early works by Marcel Proust, from the heirs of Suzy Mante-Proust, Marcel Proust's niece.
This considerable collection (over 900 items) would be an unprecedented addition to the Library's collection. It includes: unpublished drafts by Jean Santeuil and numerous manuscripts of À la recherche du temps perdu.
It would complete the works already in the Library's collection since 1962. In fact, in some case it would join two halves of one same work which were seperated over time.
This acquisition would open up new fields for Proustian research, as the many unpublished and unknown manuscripts reflecting the different stages of work in the cycle of La Recherche du temps perdu would shed new light.
