To preserve and make accessible as widely as possible the diverse collections of the Benaki Museum through all available channels of communication and display.

To maintain a dynamic connection with ongoing cultural processes in Greece and beyond.

THE BENAKI MUSEUM

The Benaki Museum was founded by Antonis Benakis, a Greek expatriate, a cosmopolitan and a visionary collector, born in Alexandria Egypt. He bequeathed to the Greek Nation his collections and parental home, which opened in April 1931 as the Benaki Museum. Since its inauguration, the Benaki Museum evolved into one of the largest and most innovative museums in Europe, with several annexes, archives, conservation laboratories and shops. Despite its development, the Benaki Museum remains welcoming, open to all and faithful to its mission: the creation of a space of diversity, where cultures, eras and places meet.
