Unlocking a Child’s Future: The Story of Ana

At Bay Islands International School, in Honduras, education is more than just textbooks and classrooms—it’s a lifeline to a brighter future. Ana, a bright and determined 10-year-old, dreams of becoming a marine biologist. Growing up in a small island community, she has always been fascinated by the ocean that surrounds her, but opportunities to learn and grow have been limited.

Before coming to BIIS, Ana struggled in a Honduras public school that lacked resources and student-centered teaching. Her parents, who work tirelessly to support their family in a very difficult economy, worried about her future. But thanks to the support of generous donors, Ana was able to receive a scholarship to attend BIIS, where she now has access to engaging science lessons, hands-on environmental projects, and inspiring teachers who encourage her to chase her dreams.

Ana’s story is just one of many. Each donation to BIIS helps provide scholarships, technology, and classroom resources that change lives. Your support ensures that students like Ana don’t just dream of a better future—they achieve it.

Will you help open doors for more students like Ana? Join us in empowering the next generation of leaders by making a donation today. Every contribution makes a difference.

📢 Donate now and be a part of something truly transformational. 💙✨

Help us build a new school!

We are embarking on the construction of a new building for our school to address the pressing need for expanded facilities. The escalating demand for our education program has outpaced the capacity of our current facilities, necessitating the construction of a new school building. With enrollment numbers steadily climbing, overcrowding has become a critical issue, making it imperative to expand our infrastructure to accommodate the growing needs of our students. This ambitious project aims to alleviate overcrowding while providing an enhanced learning environment conducive to fostering academic excellence and personal growth. Permits: The necessary permits need to be obtained and fees paid to start construction. Septic System: A septic system needs to be installed to provide for the proper handling of waste for a population of up to 300 students. Security Fence: A fence consisting of a 4-foot tall concrete block foundation is needed for security reasons. Water Well: A water well needs to be dug to a depth of around 100 feet to provide for the needs of our students and staff. Electricity Connection: A utility pole will have to be installed to provide electricity to the new building. Landscaping: Landscaping and entry/exit road construction to provide adequate vehicle access and parking for student/staff, and visitor parking. School Building: The first building to be constructed on the property will be required to accommodate administrative offices, the Preschool, and the Elementary school. Also a library, a music room, and an art room.

Help Outfit a High School Science Lab

Equip a Science Lab. Empower 25 Future Scientists. Project Title: Science Lab for 21st Century Learners Location: Bay Islands International School, Honduras Target Beneficiaries: 100 high school students annually Funding Goal: $25,000 USD Project Overview Bay Islands International School is expanding its academic offerings to meet the needs of a growing student body with a strong interest in science, engineering, and medicine. A fully equipped science lab is essential for students to engage in hands-on learning, critical thinking, and experimentation in biology, chemistry, and physics. The new Science Lab is in support of our effort to build a new school on recently purchased land near the location of the current school. We are seeking partners to help us fund and equip a safe, functional, and modern science laboratory designed for 25 students per class. Why This Lab Matters Without a dedicated science lab, students in our region miss out on critical opportunities to: Conduct experiments and apply scientific theory Develop inquiry-based learning skills Prepare for careers in STEM fields Participate in science fairs, AP-style coursework, and university-readiness programs This project is about more than equipment—it’s about equity. We aim to level the playing field for students in a low-income region through access to a U.S.-style, inquiry-based science education. Funding Breakdown 1. Safety & Lab Furniture – $7,730 Equips the lab with essential furniture and life-saving safety infrastructure: Lab tables and stools Safety goggles, lab coats Eye wash station, fire extinguishers Chemical spill kits and safety signage 2. General Lab Equipment – $6,215 Tools for conducting standard experiments in all sciences: Microscopes and dissection kits Digital scales, thermometers, hot plates Beakers, flasks, test tubes, pH meters 3. Chemicals & Consumables – $2,050 Initial supply of chemicals and materials for one academic year: Acids, bases, salts, indicators Dissection specimens and glassware Gloves, litmus paper, ethanol 4. Physics Materials – $2,200 Hands-on materials for understanding electricity, optics, motion, and force: Electricity kits, lenses, mirrors Spring scales, pulleys, laser pointers Digital multimeters 5. Teacher & Storage Equipment – $2,800 Critical infrastructure for secure chemical storage and teacher-led demos: Lockable chemical cabinet Prep sink and demo station Shelving and inventory control Total Needed: $25,000 USD All donations will go directly to procuring and shipping lab materials to Roatán, Honduras. We are committed to full transparency and will provide photos, updates, and receipts to all supporters. Recognition & Accountability We are happy to recognize donors on a plaque in the lab, on our website, and through regular donor updates. Tax-deductible receipts are available through our U.S.-based fiscal sponsor, The Resource Foundation Join Us By funding this science lab, you’re doing more than buying equipment—you’re giving a young person the opportunity to experiment, explore, and engineer a better world. Let’s build a lab—and a legacy.
