Building a more just and regenerative Greater Belo Horizonte — together

Nossa Cidade is a community foundation based in Brazil, working to mobilize resources and support grassroots initiatives across the Greater Belo Horizonte metropolitan region.

We believe the people closest to the challenges are also closest to the solutions.

That’s why, instead of designing top-down programs, we fund and strengthen community-led projects that are already creating change — from environmental regeneration and local economic development to youth leadership and mutual aid.

Our journey

Over the past decade, Nossa Cidade has grown from a small pilot project into a network of more than 150 volunteers working across 34 municipalities, reaching over 5 million people.

In response to the 2019 Brumadinho dam disaster, we launched the Brumadinho Regenerative Fund, supporting dozens of community-led initiatives in affected areas. What began as an emergency response evolved into something much more powerful: a new model for locally governed, regenerative philanthropy.

Building on that experience, we created the Greater Belo Horizonte Regenerative Fund, expanding our work across the entire metropolitan region.

And now, we are taking the next step:
replicating this model in multiple municipalities, so that each territory can have its own locally rooted fund — designed, governed, and activated by the community itself.
