A first capital campaign of its kind, Build Back Beta Xi is your opportunity to invest in the rebuild and restoration of our historic chapter home with a tax-deductible gift through the newly created Alpha Xi Delta Beta Xi Foundation.
For nearly 70 years, 322 Fifth Street has served as a home-away-from-home for generations of Beta Xi sisters. Perhaps you recall your own days in the house sharing a room with your Big/Little Sis, studying for exams, sharing a meal, or participating in chapter meetings. Whatever memories this special home evokes for you, it's likely a space where you forged life-long friendships, developed as a leader, and - ultimately - realized your potential.
After a devastating fire (ruled arson) in November 2021, the Building Corporation Board has been dedicated to restoring the house to its former glory, while also making long-awaited and necessary changes to improve the usability of the space. In addition to reincorporating the charming historic elements we all know and love, there are changes happening to make bedrooms, bathrooms, and kitchen more functional and accessible, add central heating and cooling, upgrade windows and doors to more energy-efficient options, and so much more. Construction is well underway with a completion goal by the end of 2023, and the architectural plans are beautiful.
Although the Building Corporation's insurance plan covers a majority of the rebuild costs, several large-ticket items that are considered "upgrades" are not included, such as the difference between adding back a boiler versus the addition of the selected HVAC system, as well as all interior furnishings, decorations, etc. With a total campaign goal of $250,000, we are estimating a minimum $150,000 in construction costs directly associated with the rebuild efforts and another $100,000 to assist with lost revenue and to begin building a "rainy day" fund for the future.
WE NEED YOUR HELP!
The Alpha Xi Delta Beta Xi Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, was created in 2023 as a way for our alumnae sisters to contribute tax-deductible gifts to help restore our historic chapter home. According to stipulations by the IRS, the Foundation will have the ability to make periodic grants to the Building Corporation to be used expressly for the construction costs associated with the "educational areas" of the home. Additionally, the Foundation will make annual grants to the Building Corp. in future years to assist with a portion (educational space percentage) of the annual operating expenses of the home, which are considered tax-deductible as allowable by law.
But our vision is so much bigger! The Foundation boasts a dual purpose with an eye to the future: in addition to providing immediate and critical support for the chapter house rebuild, your gift also is an investment in the educational experiences of our active sisters. Tax-deductible gifts through the Foundation also will be used to support scholarships and educational programming opportunities for chapter women in the coming years.
YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
We invite you to join fellow alumnae and friends of the Beta Xi Chapter of Alpha Xi Delta with a special gift to Build Back Beta Xi today -- your support makes a substantial and important difference for the future of our sisterhood. Together, we will restore our home to its former glory and create a space for another 70+ years of memories-in-the-making!
If you are interested in individual or group naming opportunities within the house or have any other questions, please don't hesitate to reach out directly to the Foundation at hello@mcaxidalumnae.org.
