The Alabama Association of Nonprofits (AAN) is a statewide membership organization that was founded in 1996 as a collaborative effort of Alabama Power Foundation, the United Way of Central Alabama, and the Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham.
AAN is the only association of its kind in Alabama dedicated exclusively to serving the nonprofit sector. We are educators, consultants, and connectors, and we help nonprofits succeed. AAN has over 550 members statewide and we are growing.
By providing expert professional development and linking our nonprofit leaders, we create more efficient and effective nonprofit organizations. AAN training sessions, CEO roundtables, tailored consulting services, and networking events expand our CEOs’ skills in fund development, human capital management, board governance, and mission advancement.
Alabama’s nonprofit sector generates more than $13.5 billion annually for our state, holds $40 billion in assets, and employs over 5% of Alabamians. Alabama’s 5,758 active nonprofits are economic developers, human services providers, community builders and advocates for change. Our members represent the very best Alabama has to offer, and give selflessly of their time, talent, energy, and resources toward one common goal – to strengthen our communities by taking care of those in need.
