For over 40 years, Search for Common Ground has worked to transform conflicts and build peace across 36 countries. We believe that conflict is inevitable but violence is not. Through creative, context-specific approaches, we help communities move from division and violence to collaboration and lasting peace. We bring together all stakeholders in conflict, including governments, grassroots leaders, and marginalized communities, using innovative techniques to foster cooperation.

Our mission is simple: to transform how the world handles conflict, shifting from adversarial methods to cooperative solutions.

THE PROBLEM

Violent conflict is one of the greatest sources of human suffering. As of 2023, 1 in 4 people worldwide lives in a country affected by violent conflict. The human and social costs of ongoing violence are staggering, further destabilizing vulnerable regions and perpetuating cycles of violence.

THE SOLUTION

Search is building pathways to peace, from grassroots efforts to the highest levels of governance. We have a track record of creatively responding to both immediate crises and deep-rooted conflicts. Our Common Ground Approach combines dialogue, media, trauma healing, and capacity-building to address the unique needs of each region.
