San Luis Obispo Classical Academy

We provide classical education (with a twist) for grades Pre-K-12, uniting in-class instruction with home-study to create a first-of-its kind collaberative model.

Why have so many families decided to invest in their children through SLOCA? Why are some families willing to drive 40+ miles to bring their children to SLOCA? Because SLOCA is special. We combine an amazing, time-tested education with down-home living. We read great books that touch and change us. We bring families together. We provide an education that is effective and completely prepares students for life and forever learning. We teach kids to think for themselves and challenge their character, all within the warm arms of a supportive community.

Classical education is the method and philosophy of education that has trained many of the greatest minds in western history for over two millennia! Although it is now a foreign concept to many, it is recently beginning to take hold in our nation again as a compelling alternative to the widespread educational method.

At SLO Classical Academy, we chose to adopt this philosophy because we believe it is the best method of education for the forging of character, fostering of wisdom, and the nurturing of a lifelong passion for learning in our students.

One of the golden threads of classical education is the understanding that a student’s learning progresses through three stages of what has been termed as the trivium: grammar, logic (otherwise referred to as dialectic), and rhetoric. These stages of the trivium can be viewed as connected to the developmental levels through which all children progress.

In order to keep our tuition affordable for as many families as possible in our community, we rely on hundreds of benefactors who all contribute in various ways to support our students and mission. We are working hard to be a valuable asset in the San Luis Obispo County community and invite you to join us by pitching in!
