the nonprofits

At HDF, we believe in a better, more efficient approach to humanitarian work.

The Human Development Fund (HDF) was founded by Muslim Americans and young professionals who have spent a combined 24 years in the nonprofit humanitarian sector and are collectively responsible for establishing multi-million dollar organizations. Each of these individuals has a multitude of skills that will enable them to make the Human Development Fund the premier Muslim nonprofit in the US inshaAllah. We’re glad you decided to take this journey with us!

We believe in a better, more efficient way to do humanitarian work. Our focus is on development and sustainability, as we ensure that the basics are taken care of.

Our team will be working around the clock to provide the care needed for those you have chosen to support and sponsor.

Human Development Fund

We are a humanitarian organization dedicated to empowering lives and bringing social change.

Zakat, or zakat al-mal, means “obligatory alms” or “alms upon wealth.” It stands as the third pillar of Islam, coming immediately after salat, the daily ritual prayer.

Every Muslim possessing the designated minimal amount of wealth, nisab, for the full cycle of a lunar year must, as a matter of worship, satisfy the duty of paying zakat.

Unfortunately, the calculation of zakat has become unclear to many Muslims because of the many different kinds of wealth they may have.

The mission of Zakat Foundation is to help Muslims carry out their zakat duties easily and correctly. The resources assembled here cover a diverse array of financial topics and questions to assist with calculating and paying zakat in an accurate, timely and convenient way.
