The San Francisco Neo-Futurists are a collective of wildly prolific artists dedicated to the perpetual creation of experimental theatre that is immediate, ephemeral, accessible, and cheap. We believe the stage is an extension of daily life: we perform as ourselves in a non-illusory, interactive style that challenges the audience to create alongside us as active participants with a voice of their own. We respect and uplift each other on and off stage through non-hierarchical accountability, collective decision-making, and anti-oppression practice of all kinds. Eye Zen Presents illuminates and preserves hidden LGBTQ+ histories through interdisciplinary performance, archival activation, and intergenerational exchange. We create immersive public art rooted in place, memory, and accessibility that connects queer elders, artists, and audiences. Our practice pairs hands-on archival preservation with new creative works so that endangered legacies are safeguarded and shared as living culture.

Story House Ithaca brings people together to share, study, create, and enjoy stories in all their forms.

Story House Ithaca brings people together around stories. We define “story” very broadly, to include fiction and nonfiction, poetry and song, documentary, journalism, photography, audio, film, theater, puppetry, visual and performance art, graphics, dance, and every other way of communicating ideas and experience. Our definition of “house” is also broad. We hope eventually to settle into our own space, but for now we’re excited to be popping up around the community.

**The Problem**

Our society is going through a period of fracturing, as people of different socioeconomic, cultural, and educational backgrounds divide into ever more insular groups. One reason for this is a lack of opportunities for people to interact in meaningful and non-threatening ways. This has had disastrous consequences in politics, public health, and many other areas.
  
 **Our Approach**

- Story House creates. We dream up, organize, and present workshops, discussions, readings, talks, screenings, exhibitions, performances, participatory projects, and other activities. 
- Story House collaborates. We work with organizations, artists, activists, scholars, and others to plan and present compelling programming. 
- Story House connects. We help creative people and groups find new partners and reach new audiences. 
- Story House empowers. We help members of our community acquire the skills they need to tell the stories they want to tell.

In all our programs and activities, we are committed to creating inclusive spaces that welcome diversity. We strive to foster interactions between people of different cultures, ethnicities, and socioeconomic backgrounds, with the goal of working toward shared understanding and a more equitable, anti-racist society.
 
**Our Team**

Lesley Greene (co-director) is a producer, designer, writer, and director. She worked for many years at the Kitchen Theatre Company, where she curated and produced three performance series, created sound and projection designs, and served as chief grant writer and head of marketing. She is a co-founder and co-organizer of Porchfest, a festival that began in Ithaca in 2007 and now takes place in more than 150 cities across North America.
  
Jonathan Miller (co-director) is a writer, journalist, editor, radio producer, podcaster, and media project leader whose work has taken him to more than 20 countries. Since 2006, he has been executive director of Homelands Productions, an award-winning journalism collective that specializes in public radio features and documentaries. Jon serves on the board of Ithaca City of Asylum and coordinates the ONWARDS project, which seeks to help displaced writers, artists, human rights defenders, and scholars find stability in the USA.

Through vital resources, including fiscal sponsorship, low-cost coworking and event space, and professional development programs, we empower people to continue creating, thinking big, and taking weird and wonderful risks.

ISHIDA transforms everyday being through meaning-filled, entertaining, thought-provoking, highest-caliber contemporary dance.

ISHIDA Dance Company prompts existential questions through timeless narrative dance that celebrates universal themes of our psyche—belonging, hubris, loss and love.

ISHIDA Dance presents original ISHIDA poetic narratives as well as works by exciting new choreographers working with some of the most sought-after dancers around the world (Houston Ballet, Ballet BC, English National Ballet, Tanzmainz, Nederlands Dans Theater, American Ballet Theatre). These unique works evoke self-empathy that lead to greater kindness within the community.

Center to the mission, beyond beautiful, community-centric arts, ISHIDA brings the healing power of dance directly to marginalized communities.

- ISHIDA provides free dance workshops to at-risk youth and disabled people in the community. Outreach partners include The Mary Lee Foundation, The ARC of the Capital Area, and Title One schools: Marshall Middle and Northside High School.
- We also provide complimentary tickets to economically disadvantaged youth and adults to attend performances.

Ithaca City of Asylum (ICOA) is a community organization dedicated to providing sanctuary to writers whose works are suppressed.

Ithaca City of Asylum (ICOA) is a community organization dedicated to providing sanctuary to writers whose works are suppressed, whose lives are threatened, whose cultures are vanishing, or whose languages are endangered. ICOA is a member of the International Cities of Refuge Network, one of only three member cities in the United States. Formed in 2001, ICOA has hosted writer, poet, and essayist Yi Ping; the late playwright and novelist Reza Daneshvar; poet and memoirist Sarah Mkhonza; poet and playwright Irakli Kakabadze; journalist Sonali Samarasinghe; journalist and memoirist Raza Rumi; political cartoonist Pedro Molina; poet, novelist, and satirist Dmitry Bykov; and filmmaker, writer and puppeteer Arthur Groys.

**The problem**

In many places in today’s world, writers face persecution for the statements they make in their art. Every writer who is silenced means one less voice to speak for thousands more against oppression.
 
**Our approach**

ICOA hosts one writer at a time (plus family members) for a two-year residence in partnership with a local institution of higher learning. Currently, our artist serves as a Visiting Affiliate Artist at Ithaca College. Cornell University has hosted past writers and currently provides substantial financial sponsorship. 

Our visiting writers teach, share their work through public events, and form alliances with local organizations. The resident benefits from a place to live, time to write, financial support, and community. Ithaca gains the perspective, friendship, and artistry of each visiting resident.

Shell Lake Arts Center Inc

One of the most sought-after young artist programs in France 

This Paris-based opera company is dedicated to lyric repertoire from the mid-18th century to the present. Founded and directed by American conductor David Stern, it combines an ambitious young artists program and a versatile instrumental ensemble.  Opera Fuoco has been in existence since 2003 initially as a top-level period instrument ensemble and later as an internationally recognized young artist troupe.  David Stern, Katharina Wolff and the Fuoco team have developed a multi-faceted program to develop young vocal talent at a professional level.  Opera Fuoco offers a unique, custom-made experience to young singers transitioning from conservatory to professional life.  Singers are able to work with Maestro Stern, experienced vocal coaches and stage directors in various contexts ranging from masterclasses and recitals to large-scale performances with orchestra and fully staged opera productions. The repertoire spans not only several centuries but a variety of genres, from baroque to contemporary, including musical comedy and jazz.  Opera Fuoco has shaped its young artist program not as an academy but as a professional company for young singers engaged for a period of three to four years. In its 13 years of existence, Opera Fuoco's Young Artist Program has trained approximately 50 singers from 15 different countries. Our 15 current members come from 5 different countries, and candidates from the last round of auditions represented 34 nationalities. Opera Fuoco's activities are largely Paris-area based, with masterclasses held in prestigious spaces such as the Petit Palais and regular concerts at the Philharmonie de Paris and the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées. The company has also enhanced its international reputation by developing regular performance partnerships with the Bachfest in Leipzig, the Beethovenfest in Bonn, the International Telemann Festival, the Swedish Chamber Orchestra as well as the Shanghai Baroque and Beijing Music Festivals in China.

With over 300 events annually – opera, ballet, classical concerts, recitals – the Zurich Opera House is one of the most productive and renowned cultural venues in Europe. Each season the Zurich Opera House features numerous opera and ballet (world) premieres such as classical concerts and attractive revivals presenting casts with the best singers from all over the world.

Donations are critical to the AFZOH’s success in achieving its ambitious goals on behalf of the Zurich Opera House. This includes among others tours and guest performances in the US, young artist exchanges between Switzerland and the US and the support of young American artists in Switzerland (education program).

We are the oldest educational institution for the performing arts in Greece, founded as a non-profit organization in 1871. 

The Athens Conservatoire (greek: Odeion Athinon) is the oldest educational institution for the performing arts in modern Greece, founded as a non-profit organization in 1871, by the "Music and Drama Association "Athens Conservatoire - 1871"
The institution played a significant role in the advancement of music studies in Greece since day one. Some of the most renowned international musical personalities have graduated from or taught at the Athens Conservatoire, including conductor Dimitiris Mitropoulos (NY Philharmonic music director from 1951 to 1958), composers Nikos Skalkottas and Mikis Theodorakis, opera diva Maria Callas, pianists Gina Bachauer and Dimitris Sgouros and many others. Today, apart from continuing to offer to its c.700 music students the full range of classical music studies from the earliest stages to the concert diploma, the Athens Conservatoire is constantly expanding into new areas: thus, the Jazz Music Department includes leading Greek jazz musicians among its teaching staff and has already gained significant momentum, the Centre of Early Music offers new insights into historically informed performance to a growing number of students in collaboration with international institutions such as the Leeds University (UK), while a new program of studies leading to a BMus (Hons) degree in classical music performance is being developed in collaboration with Goldsmiths College, University of London (UK). 

Meanwhile, the first Drama School in Greece, also founded in 1871, has had a pivotal role in the advancement of theatrical studies in the country. Today, the Drama School of the Athens Conservatoire, member of the World Theatre Education Alliance (WTEA) – Beijing, is included among the select few top professional drama schools in Greece, officially recognized by the Ministry of Culture. The school students and its staff regularly stage cutting edge performances and cooperate with leading drama institutions abroad.

The Athens Conservatoire School of Dance, although established in the ‘00s, has been constantly expanding ever since and today features one of the few state-accredited Higher Professional Dance Schools in the country, complementing perfectly the Athens Conservatoire's wide portfolio of performing arts disciplines.

The Athens Conservatoire Centre for Research and Documentation, initially founded in 2015 to rescue from oblivion and decay our institution's extensive historical archives, is currently developing a broad range of research and editorial initiatives such as the preparation and edition of the first ever extensive History of Music in Contemporary Greece. The AC Centre for Research and Documentation participates and regularly contributes to international fora like the IAML (International Association of Music Libraries, Archives and Documentation Centres), publishes scientific papers and a magazine, and organizes various exhibitions, such as a major exhibition on the composer Iannis Xenakis in collaboration with the Greek National Museum of Contemporary Art.

Many other major Greek arts organizations such as the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Centre, the Greek National Opera, the Athens & Epidaurus International Festival, the Onassis Cultural Centre, the Athens Concert Hall (Megaron) and many others regularly invite us to participate in leading cultural events.

The Athens Conservatoire iconic building, located in the heart of Athens near the Presidential Palace and the Aristotle Lyceum, is designed by the famous Greek architect Ioannis Despotopoulos (1903-1992) who holds a prominent position within the modernist architectural movement of the 1930s and the Bauhaus School in which he actively participated. His work for the Athens Conservatoire is the only completed part of an ambitious large-scale cultural complex commissioned in 1959 by the then government for Athens. For these reasons, the building is officially designated as a "Modern Architectural Monument" by the Greek Ministry of Culture. Today, this recently renovated building is functioning as a unique and enviable cultural hub for various contemporary artistic and cultural high profile events.

Founded in 1988, Fishtrap is a literary arts and humanities nonprofit located in Enterprise, OR. 

Fishtrap's mission is to cultivate clear thinking and good writing in and about the West. Since 1988, Fishtrap has created a vibrant literary community in [Wallowa County, Oregon ](https://fishtrap.org/about-us/our-place/)through our programs such as the annual [Summer Fishtrap Gathering of Writers](https://fishtrap.org/summer-fishtrap/), **Winter Fishtrap**, local writing workshops, residencies, and a growing youth creative writing and theater program in all area public schools. Donations are key to ensuring these programs are of high quality and accessible to our entire community.

Our location in rural Northeast Oregon is central to our identity. Wallowa County (pop. 7,500) is one of the most geographically remote regions in Oregon, with only 2.2 people per square mile. We are located more than 150 miles from the nearest city of 100,000 or more, and are considered a “Frontier Community,” with 43% of adults having attained no more than a high school education. 

At Fishtrap, we believe the West as both a place and an idea holds a wealth of creative opportunities that are often undervalued, misunderstood, and undernourished—particularly in rural areas. Fishtrap events are created to bring people together and encourage community through learning about our history, offering space for diverse perspectives and backgrounds, and helping define our shared experiences. Most local events are offered free of charge, or on a suggested donation basis. Our community members recognize Fishtrap as a core driver of the local arts community.

Fishtrap reaches 4,000 people annually. We strive to serve a broad audience, creating programs that reach all ages and walks of life, from the very youngest writer to award-winning poets, novelists, journalists, and memoirists. Over the past three years, 60% of the participants in our programs were from Oregon (evenly split between rural, urban and suburban), 30% were from Western states, and 10% were from 10 other states. Our continuum of low- and no-cost youth programming reaches 700 young rural writers ages 7–18 each year. In any given year, Fishtrap contracts 40-50 working artists as instructors, keynote speakers and writers-in-residence.

An ambitious summer festival, taking place in a 500-seat theatre overlooking a glorious valley in the English Cotswolds. 

Longborough Festival Opera (LFO), a now internationally-recognised summer opera festival with wide-reaching education programmes, has a remarkable story with humble beginnings. Set in the quintessentially English Cotswolds, and sharing the same county as the country residence of HM King Charles III, it was founded by a man who had no formal musical education, who listened to Beethoven while working on a building site. It has grown into an established opera company, with a summer festival in a purpose-built theatre which has its own humble beginnings – as an agricultural chicken shed.

Longborough punches well above its weight, achieving many times over what others have not even attempted:  in 2013, a full-scale production of Wagner's Ring Cycle established the Festival as a destination for Wagnerians in the UK and abroad, becoming the first ever (and as yet the only) UK festival to stage a full Ring Cycle. A new Ring culminated in another full cycle in 2024, thus also racking up the extraordinary achievement of having produced two new productions of this epic work in just over a decade.  

The world’s leading magazine about opera, Opera Magazine, said of the Longborough Ring Cycle (August 2024): "No other "country house" opera company has risen to such a challenge, not even Glyndebourne… the stamina, the superb diction, the focused musicianship: all of these served as a model of the best this daring, innovative Ring cycle could produce."  

Our new strategy to 2030 is heavily influenced by some of the themes that we see in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg: learning, love, craftsmanship, community music-making, midsummer feast-days and philosophy of art. We will produce this opera for the first time in 2027, our 30th anniversary year of opera-making in this theatre. It also cements our historic connection with the work of Richard Wagner, taking inspiration from the composer which inspired the Festival in the first place.

Our vision is to be recognised as a bold, audacious company essential to the UK’s opera landscape, rooted in our community and our environment, fostering the best of British Wagnerian talent and the next generation of artists and audiences through its innovative festival and education programmes.

Lyric Stage produces intimate, challenging and entertaining theatre with Boston-area artists for Boston-area audiences.

Founded in 1974, the Lyric Stage is Boston's oldest professional theatre company, producing a six-show season which ranges in theatrical styles from classic Broadway-style musicals to new plays. Since 1991, the Lyric Stage has been in residence at 140 Clarendon Street, in a 240-seat venue, that is widely regarded as the most intimate in Boston.

With few exceptions, the actors, directors, designers, stage managers, technicians, music directors, and musicians that work at Lyric Stage live in Greater Boston. In casting and hiring, the artistic department seeks to balance ongoing relationships with opportunities for emerging local artists. Our educational programming reflects a commitment to introduce theatre to Boston's residents and to inspire young people to discover the multiple ways in which theatre can enhance, or become, a life-long career.

The Concertgebouw: A hall of and for music lovers

Back in 1881, leading members of the community took the initiative to build a concert hall, and it was thanks to members of the public that The Concertgebouw was inaugurated in 1888. To this very day, it is still the general public and private funds which keep the hall open. In fact, only five per cent of The Concertgebouw’s annual income is provided by the state. Indeed, The Concertgebouw intends to remain a private institution in the future. Obviously, support from the private sector is essential to ensuring that the hall can continue to welcome musicians and audience members alike, both today and in the future.

To safeguard The Concertgebouw’s existence, the Concertgebouw Fund Foundation was established in 2000. The fund contributes to the renovation and restoration of the hall and supports a variety of education projects which is one of its main goals. Perhaps you yourself have toyed with the idea of supporting the Concertgebouw and thus helping to secure its future. The Concertgebouw Fund offers a variety of options to help make that idea a reality. In exchange, you’ll be able to enjoy many special privileges as a patron of the Concertgebouw Fund.

History: The beginning of The Concertgebouw

The beginning
The date is 15 September 1881. Six illustrious Amsterdam citizens come together to breathe life into the ‘Provisional Committee to build a concert hall’. The Park Hall theatre in the Plantage area was about to be demolished, the Felix Meritis building was too small, and Amsterdam’s Crystal Palace was uncomfortable and notorious for its poor acoustics. A few months earlier, the weekly paper De Amsterdammer denounced the sad state of the capital city’s music scene. 'While the leaders of all self-respecting cities abroad have made sure their cities are graced with good concert halls, our government has declared that these ill-fated ‘arts’ are not its responsibility,’ the paper reported.

Construction commences
To determine a suitable location, the committee turns to Pierre Cuypers, the architect of the Rijksmuseum which was being built at that time. He helps negotiate the purchase of a plot of land near the new museum, just outside the city limits, in the middle of the Nieuwer-Amstel fields. On 7 March 1882, plans were completed for a public limited company with a capital sum of 400,000 guilders, for which shares could be purchased for 1000 guilders. On 8 July 1882, the company N.V. Het Concertgebouw was officially founded, even though only 250,000 guilders in shares had been sold.

Dolf van Gendt
There was no requirement for a particular building style, as long as the end result would fit on an area of 130 x 55 metres, be constructed for a budget of 300,000 guilders, and provide space for around 2000 concertgoers. After some bickering, a design was chosen – albeit a scaled-down version – from Amsterdam’s most frequently patronised architect, Adolf Leonard (Dolf) van Gendt, the creator of many famous buildings, including the Hollandsche Manege, Frascati, De IJsbreker and the Gallery of the Crystal Palace.

Grand opening
The Concertgebouw was completed in late 1886. However, due to a lack of confidence on the part of the funders as well as the necessary difficulties with the municipality of Nieuwer-Amstel (for example, with respect to filling in a small canal, paving the access roads and installing street lights), the grand opening of the long-awaited building was only celebrated on Wednesday 11 April 1888.

Famous acoustics: The secret of the Main Hall

Unparalleled acoustics
So what is the secret of the world-famous acoustics of the Main Hall of The Royal Concertgebouw? Is it just a coincidence that Dolf van Gendt, considered by his family to be completely devoid of musical talent, was able to create a perfectly resonant hall? In the time that The Concertgebouw was taking shape, the science of acoustics was still considered a mysterious combination of many different and undefinable factors. Professional recording equipment was only developed in the 20th century; at the time, architects only had successful examples to look to.

As a result, the Recital Hall is nearly identical to the renowned oval hall in the Felix Meritis building, while the Main Hall – in terms of design and materials used – was based on the large concert hall of the Neue Gewandhaus in Leipzig, Germany. In later restorations, the original design and finishing details of the halls were left intact as much as possible to preserve the sensitive acoustics. Because even the most advanced equipment is unable to unmask the secret of the Main Hall’s unparalleled acoustics.

Actors' Shakespeare Project

We use magic to create a just world full of possibility in communities worldwide. Entertaining, Educating and Empowering.

We believe that learning, practicing, and performing magic transform at-risk youth’s lives by awakening dreams and the hope that the impossible is possible. 

I the past year we have visited Ukraine in three ocations and have created our education chapter there, in Lviv.

We created a unique long-term education program that increases a child’s self-confidence, discipline, focus, and self-esteem. This allows them to raise themselves out of poverty and enthusiastically create a hopeful future. 
	
This program is implemented in the slums of big cities. Mainly in Latin America: Bogotá, Medellín, Barranca de Upía (Colombia), Curridabat (Costa Rica) Ahuachapan, Santa Ana, San Salvador (El Salvador) , India (Mumbai), Cape Town (South Africa) and the United States. The magic classes of 10-20 children meet weekly to learn, practice and eventually perform magic. These classes continue for at least a year; some have been going on for as long as seven years. 

We also give them entrepreneurial skills training so that they can sell magic services to gain extra income.

Since 2002, Magicians Without Borders has traveled to over thirty countries using magic to entertain, educate and empower. By UN estimates we have entertained over 500,000 of the most forgotten people in the world –mostly refugees and orphans living in desperate, difficult and often war torn parts of the world. Detailed accounts of this work can be found on our Our Travels page. We are also educating children in Santa Ana, El Salvador, Mumbai, India and Bogata, Colombia to become magicians. As they study magic, they develop self-confidence, self-esteem, discipline, focus and a sense of personal power. We have also established a Scholarship fund to empower these children to finish High School and go on to college, nursing school, and culinary school.

Magicians Without Borders

Our programs help young performing artists bridge the gap from university training to careers in opera and musical theatre.

Music Theater Bavaria (DBA Musiktheater Bavaria) is a Florida-based nonprofit devoted to performing arts education for emerging professional opera and musical theatre performers between the ages of 19 and 30. Students from throughout the United States (singers, dancers, and pianists) are competitively selected for our summer study-abroad program in Germany, where they train intensively for one month with world-class international faculty and perform in public concerts in either our Opera Studio or our Musical Theater Studio.

Our programs offer our students practical career training beyond what is provided in even very fine university and conservatory music and theater degree programs, giving them an extra edge that can make a difference in successfully launching their professional careers, introducing them to international opportunities they may have never dreamed exist, and providing the maturing effect of studying side by side with other highly talented colleagues from throughout the U.S. who are serious about learning how to compete in a tough business where their talent alone does not guarantee a career.

Need-based scholarship funding is a very important part of our mission, as the per-student cost of our month-long program in Germany (including room and board) is about $6,000. Our ability to offer scholarships is wholly dependent on donations to our scholarship fund. Donations to Musiktheater Bavaria through every.org will directly and personally benefit young performing artists, helping us to ensure that top applicants from all economic backgrounds can access these transformative opportunities for career-building and personal growth. Each summer our scholarship fund starts anew from zero, as each year we have awarded all the funds we have raised. Music Theater Bavaria Inc

Coeurage Ensemble is LA's only Pay What You Want Theatre Company.  It received its nonprofit status in 2012.

Coeurage was founded in the fall of 2009, when 12 graduates from California State University, Fullerton met in the back of a pie shop to form a theatre company. **Our philosophy was simple: the cost of a ticket should never prevent anyone from seeing high quality theatre in Los Angeles.** With our Pay What You Want ticketing model in place, we produced our first piece in early 2010, an original series of monologues written for an all female cast titled “Head Over Heels.” The late Steve Julian attended and wrote a widely shared article with the headline, **"Six people see Head over Heels, millions show no Coeurage."** The writeup, which lauded our work while lamenting small LA theatre houses, helped put us on the map, and our attendance rose to a rare level of consistency amongst LA's intimate theatre scene.


We would have never conceived that the work we originally produced out of garages and now- condemned buildings could ultimately lead us to acclaim in **American Theatre Magazine** and a slot in the mainstage season at **Center Theatre Group's Kirk Douglas Theatre, where Coeurage was awarded the inaugural production of their Block Party program.** 

During the pandemic we were forced to pivot and create art in a different way. ***The Nomad Project*** was launched!  **The ongoing project currently has ten different stories based at specific coordinates around Los Angeles**, using existing locations as inspiration for fully produced aural journeys. Our 2022 productions of RENT by Jonathan Larson, had a cast consciously composed largely with queer and Latinx representation, and a predominantly female-identifying production team. We brought on an EDI consultant for the casting process as well as throughout the entire process. Having her at casting was game-changing and we will continue this practice. And we consciously hired a woman of color to direct a play by a white man. Their contributions to the depth and richness of storytelling were invaluable to both Coeurage Ensemble as an organization and to our audiences. We were sold out by the end of opening night, and were running a waitlist throughout. 


Our 2023 production of FROZEN FLUID by Fly Jamerson was cast entirely with actors who identify as trans or nonbinary. Our partnership with The Los Angeles LGBT Center for this production allowed us to engage directly with the Center's extensive queer and trans community, expanding our Coeurage community and offering greater access to live theater with our Pay What You Want ticket model. We were able to tell a story that had not yet been told in Los Angeles, where stories of the trans, nonbinary experience tend to be grounded in Realism. By presenting Fly’s poetry-driven script, we reached folks in a heartspace. We are incredibly proud of the impact the piece had on our audiences. One (cis-gender male) reviewer wrote, “I’m grateful to Coeurage Ensemble and the Los Angeles LGBT Center for putting this play on. What’s the point of going to the theater if all it does is affirm our values rather than challenge them? To its profound credit, there’s nothing pedantic about this play, and even less so about this playful production. The production is an earnest attempt to figure something out, a noble impulse, and, for this audience member, it offered an invite to do the same.”

Entertainment Community Fund (formerly The Actors Fund)

Apollo Arts is a nonprofit organization creating classical artistic experiences through ballet, music and theater performances.

**Apollo Performing Arts** began in the early 70's on beautiful grounds in the Sierra Foothills of Northern California, and from the very beginning gained a strong artistic momentum. Even before our first official Concert Hall was built, a Concert Series was attracting every week professional artists from the Bay Area and Los Angeles.

Our initial Chamber Concert Series lasted four years, and concerts eventually moved to the newly built Festival Hall, offering classical music to our audience every week.

One of the most involved musicians at Apollo Performing Arts at that time was pianist Anna Gold, who moved to our area and built her home. She was part of a trio with her sisters, violinist Ida and famous cellist Zara Nelsova, who could count Pablo Casals among her teachers and was widely recognized for her concerts all over the world. Zara performed at Apollo many times, and was often accompanied by famous accompanist pianist Brooks Smith.

In its relentless pursuit of classical arts, Apollo Arts was able to attract many outstanding artists such as Menahem Pressler and the famous Beaux Arts Trio, famous violinist Sidney Harth, renowned violinist Eudice Shapiro who was also accompanied by Brooks Smith, and later on pianist Brian Ganz who held his concerts and masterclasses at Apollo Arts in several occasions.

By the 80's Apollo Arts had grown into a more solid art organization: with the arrival of European-trained conductor Michael Goodwin, Apollo Arts widened its scope and developed into different branches: Apollo Orchestra and Chorus, Apollo Theatre and Apollo Opera.

Apollo Theatre has presented through the years a wide array of the most outstanding theatrical plays, from the Greeks to Shakespeare.

Apollo Opera hosted several productions throughout the years including Monteverdi's operas Orfeo, L'incoronazione di Poppea, Il ritorno di Ulisse in Patria, Il combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda, Gounod's opera Faust, Mozart's operas Cosi' Fan Tutte, Don Giovanni, The Marriage of Figaro, The Magic Flute, Verdi's opera Rigoletto and Puccini's operas Madama Butterfly and la Boheme. Beautiful costumes and sets by accomplished costume and set designers have always framed our performances offering a visual feast to our audience.

​Michael Goodwin served Apollo Arts relentlessly for 40 years raising it to what it is today, and his untimely death in 2012 was a deep loss for our community. Our indoor concert venue, the Apollo Festival Hall, has been dedicated to his loving memory.

At the turn of the Century Apollo Arts developed its major branch: classical ballet. Our quest for the highest artistic expression of classical beauty was enriched further once our outdoor classical amphitheater, the Da Vinci Theatron, was conceived and realized, making possible to host ballet galas and to invite the best dancers from the Bolshoi and Marinsky Theatres in Russia and from renowned US ballet companies: Diana Vishneva, Maria Alexandrova, Olga Pavlova, Alina Somova, Nikolay Tsiskaridze, Farukh Ruzimatov, Alexander Vetrov, Denis Matvienko, Igor Zelensky and more renowned artists.

From 2003 to 2008 Apollo Arts has offered to its audience long seasons of enchanting outdoors ballet performances each year, from May to September, with some of the best dancers in the world. Concurrently, classical music and theatre took place all year round, and until today.

In 2017 classical ballet has come back to Apollo on the occasion of our Da Vinci Theatron reopening: our 'Masters and Youth' gala on August 5th and 6th has welcomed back our world-class dancers from Russia, now friends of Apollo Arts, who have graciously shared our stage with Marat Dukayev's School of Ballet from Los Angeles.

**The Bearded Ladies Cabaret is a queer arts organization that sits on your lap and sings you a story.** Whether it’s an opera, a home-made cabaret, a musical walking tour, or a show on a truck, we employ song, spectacle, storytelling, and heart to welcome audiences into moments of joy, healing, and subversion. Through sharing our original pieces and creating bespoke platforms for performance at home in Philadelphia, nationally, and abroad, we nurture artistic connection for a community of misfits, rabble-rousers, chanteuses and the people who love and need them. Bearded Ladies Cabaret

Tuition-free music lessons and mentorship by paid professional artists for youth in under-resourced communities across the USA. 

ArtSmart transforms the lives of youth in under-resourced communities across the U.S. through tuition-free music lessons and mentorship by paid, professional artists. Its music mentorship framework is designed to provide youth a pathway to academic, economic, and emotional stability by harnessing the proven cognitive and social-emotional benefits of these opportunities. ArtSmart empowers its students to succeed in all facets of life by equipping them with the tools and meaningful relationships critical to their creative, personal, and educational growth.

Through weekly one-to-one and small group sessions over a school year, ArtSmart students receive instruction and mentorship from professional musicians. Using an evidence-based curriculum, ArtSmart teaching artists, titled the Maria Manetti Shrem Mentors, work with their students to set goals, learn music, develop a healthy self-esteem and ultimately, chart a course for the rest of their lives.

Committed to measuring its impact, in 2023 ArtSmart concluded a two-year longitudinal study in partnership with the WCG Institutional Review Board. The study showed a causal link between ArtSmart participation and increased plans to attend college, having a meaningful connection with an adult, and having an adult to talk to when stressed or having problems.

Key findings showed the ArtSmart programs achieved their intended impact and had a transformative effect on student outcomes beyond learning music. One of the most positive correlations from the study is around interest to attend school: ArtSmart students are 3.6 times more excited to go to school on their lesson days than on an average school day. When students are excited to come to class, they are more likely to be engaged in their learning. Not only does this encourage participation and critical thinking, it also creates a more positive learning environment.

Uplifting the community, one child at a time, through the performing arts.


Amoyo Performing Arts Foundation (Amoyo) is a Cape Town based educational and developmental non-profit, founded in 2015 that offers an effective, scalable and replicable after-school and holiday performing arts programme that is age-appropriate.  Our core mission is for each beneficiary to transition from Amoyo as success driven, integral and foremost employable young people who have acquired core values, life and communication skills that seems to lack in most of our impoverished youth. Since our founding, we have successfully enrolled and trained more than 300 young people (aged 5 – 19) from poor communities into our project through the generous financial support of our co-founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Kim Conley, a private fund loan, National Lotteries Commission of South Africa and other donors and sponsors. In November 2017, Amoyo won a ministerial award from South Africa's Department of Social Development for Excellence in Youth Development.  Our long-term goal is to have a 4-6 studio facility with a dedicated kitchen and dining area, tutor centre, computer room, counseling room and suitable bathroom and changing facilities and a small bus so that we can bring more children from outer lying areas to also benefit.

**The History of Chipping Campden Music Festival**

**The Chipping Campden Music Festival** is an International classical music festival based in the ancient town of Chipping Campden, ‘the jewel of the Cotswolds'  nestled in the heart of rural England in an area of outstanding beauty.  The Music Festival was established in 2002 over a bottle of wine between friends in the kitchen of the Festival Founder, Charlie Bennett,  and since then has grown into one of the UK’s most prestigious Classical Music events.T he Music Festival runs for a fortnight annually in May, stages around 20 concerts, performed by some of the world's greatest musicians to an audience totalling over 5000 people. The majestic 800 year old St James' Church is our concert hall and it is the extraordinary acoustic in this historic building that attracts both musician and audience from around the world, an acoustic described by Sir Alfred Brendel as “*one of the finest acoustics I encountered in my 60 year career”.*  

The Music Festival firmly believes in supporting and inspiring the next generation of musicians and integrated into and around the Festival are several well established, long term schemes dedicated to this aim. 
We have built a highly acclaimed side by side teaching orchestra, **The Chipping Campden Festival Academy Orchestra or CCFAO** (est. 2008) for Conservatoire graduates on the cusp of their professional career who spend a week at the Festival working alongside seasoned pros hand-picked from Europe's best orchestras. This unique scheme (50% experienced professionals and 50% students) creates a bespoke orchestra each year, auditioning around 200 graduates for the 25 student chairs. During the Festival the CCFAO performs 3 concerts to sell out audiences, sharing the stage with world class soloists in concerto performances. Many of our alumni now work in orchestras around the world. The whole community supports this scheme offering accommodation, refreshments, transport, and a listening ear to the 50-member orchestra during their stay in the town. 

For younger musicians, we have developed a **vibrant, immersive year-round education programme** reaching around 700 children annually, offering local students free instrumental lessons from experienced musicians, a tiered youth orchestra scheme, free Festival concert tickets and inspirational workshops from Festival performers. 

For the wider community, we have established and support the **Campden Community Chorus** (est. 2013) with around 60 members ranging in age from 17 - 87, meeting weekly and performing regularly to local audiences.

In 2010, **The** **Chipping Campden Literature Festival** was founded as a complimentary Festival to the Music Festival, and takes place in the week prior to the Music Festival. It is renowned for presenting a series of thought provoking, original, and wide-ranging events featuring some of the world's greatest writers. Since 2010 the Literature Festival has grown in size, reputation and popularity, now attracting over 3000 audience members to over 50 events - a mix of intimate and large scale talks, lectures and discussions, held in venues around the town of Chipping Campden and reaching into the heart of the community.

The two Festivals are overseen by the same board of Trustees under the umbrella of The Chipping Campden Music Festival Charity.

**Governing committee**
The Chipping Campden Music Festival received Charitable status in 2005, and is governed by a board of Trustees who are: 
Ailsa Scott, David Roberts, Arthur Cunynghame and Suzanne Smith. 

Suzanne Smith was appointed in 2024 to replace Richard Stephens, one of the original trustees who stepped down in 2023, due to age and health. Founder Charlie Bennett was an original Trustee, but stood down when he became Festival Director in 2007.

**Current Management**
Festival Founder, Charlie Bennett served as Artistic Director of the Music Festival until 2023 when he stepped back to focus on the Literature Festival. The Music Festival is now run by Charlie’s two colleagues, Jessica May (Co Director) and Thomas Hull (Artistic Director). Tom and Jessica have both been closely involved in the Festival from the early days and are supported by a seasonal team of 6 paid members of staff and a network of over 20 volunteers who offer their services as front of house, hosting and catering staff. Their first two Festivals (2024 and 2025) have been met with universal approval, growth in ticket sales and increased financial support from key donors. 

The Literature Festival is run by Charlie Bennett (Co-Artistic Director) and Vicky Bennett (Co-Artistic Director and Founder) supported by a seasonal team of 2 paid members of staff and a network of over 15 volunteers who help with the day to day operations of the Literature Festival. Since 2023, the ticket sales and audience size has doubled from c1600 - c3100 due to a more ambitious and wide-reaching programme of events as well as the opening of a new community theatre with a bigger auditorium and a perfect venue for the spoken word.   In 2025, the Literature Festival produced their first play – Samuel Becket’s Waiting for Godot – to great acclaim. The success of this production will pave the way to similar projects from the Literature Festival team.

- To see young musicians in the region go through a 15 cycle:  learn an instrument through involvement in CCMF projects; study at Conservatoire/Tertiary Education; return as student of CCFAO or young artists scheme; become a music professional and ‘pass it on’ to the next generation.

Future planned activities

In addition to the May Festival planning, we are exploring the possibility of a summer performance of West Side Story in St James Church, reconvening our May orchestra, building a youth/community chorus alongside world class soloists. 

This will provide more opportunities for our players, students and give our audiences a thoroughly exhilarating summer show. 

**Last word from a legend**
Sir Bernard Haitink, the late Maestro and long-time supporter of the Festival said the following, just a year before he left us.  *“The Chipping Campden Music Festival brings world class artists – and also young musicians starting their professional journeys – to a wonderful venue. After a long lifetime as a performer, having the chance to be part of the audience and to hear concerts of outstanding quality in such a setting is the purest joy”.*

Vashon Events is a dedicated to building community and supporting artists-musicians on Vashon Island, WA. 

Our mission is to create, provide, and expand positive life experiences through music and art for all. We provide an information hub for Vashon Island including a business directory, information about events and classes happening on the island, and programs that support arts and local music. We believe that keeping Vashon Island vibrant means supporting our local businesses and artists.

Our programming provides critical and unique support for artists and musicians. We also produce concerts and other performing arts events at festivals, showcases, concerts in the park, and venues all over the island. We believe the arts should be accessible to everyone, therefore all our events are free or low-cost. At the same time, at every event we provide, we ensure that musicians and other performers are fairly compensated.

We support local musicians and artists by providing programs and services dedicated to helping them succeed in making their art. 

Music Instrument Library - Vashon Events’ musical instrument lending library provides free access to musical instruments for children and adults. We loan amplifiers, cords, tuners, and other accessories needed to make music.

Music Teacher Directory - Vashon Events’ Music Teacher Director provides a portal for information about local music teachers so students of all ages can learn to play music on a range of instruments.

Youth education programming and Library in Mozambique, Africa
 
                                                         

We've been providing free classes in literacy, English, Math, and health to ~150 underserved youth annually for the past 3 years and need your support to continue to serve.

The Moz Library Project operates the first and only public library in a small village in Africa.

Learning how to read and write can change lives. In Mozambique, 47% of the population over 15 years old are unable to read and write. Literacy equips individuals with the ability to access information and engage in critical thinking. Furthermore, literate individuals are more likely to secure better job opportunities, leading to improved economic prospects and poverty reduction. Education also enhances public health awareness, enabling individuals to make health-informed decisions.

By investing in education, you can empower youth in a small village in Africa to build brighter futures.

Courtney Johnson was a Peace Corps volunteer from 2015-2017 and worked as a teacher in Ile, Mozambique. Illiteracy was a known problem but there was an acute lack of resources that prevented the existing institutions from tackling this issue. Some of her students who knew the material verbally, turned in tests with only strings of letters and consonants. In 2015, Courtney began to work with the local government to develop a program that would work alongside the existing education system providing supplemental literacy education to close this achievement gap.

The Library is run by local staff providing employment opportunities to 3 full time and 10 part time staff members.

The 4 Pillars
1) SAFE & HYGENIC SPACE: The Moz Library was built from scratch from 2015 to 2017. The library has to electricity providing the ability to study safely after dark. The library has access to clean water and hygienic indoor & outdoor bathrooms. 
2) PUBLIC RESOURCES: Free and Public access to resources including books, pencils, paper, electricity, and computers.  
3) FREE EDUCATION: The Moz Library offers Free and Public lessons in literacy, English and Math using a simple, replicable, and interactive literacy curriculum that serves a diversity of learning styles and individualized attention. 
4) HEALTH: The Library leverages opportunities to disseminate public health information through classes, murals, and public theater.

The library is in Mozambique, a country which sits on the southeast coastline of Africa sharing a boarder with South Africa to the south and Tanzania to the north. Ile is a medium-small town with a population of approximately 15,000 people. Ile has 5 elementary schools, 1 high school, a soccer field, a hospital, several stores, and an open-air market. The coordinates of the library are 16"02"15"S and 37"10"35"E.

The Moz Library

Theatre starring people with intellectual disabilities and autism. Actors gain confidence, social skills, friends.

Mission: Through collaborative performance and lifelong learning opportunities, people with intellectual and developmental disabilities gain the skills and confidence to engage with the world.

ArtStream fuels students' imagination, creativity, and focus. We offer over 850 classes and workshops each year for 1,617 participants, six Theatre Companies totaling 90 participants and four Cabaret Companies totaling 30-40 participants, all of whom create and perform original theater works.

WHY ARTSTREAM?
People with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities - including Autism - frequently face isolation or marginalization, and are excluded from activities and spaces where community, friendships, and connections are made. Creative opportunities are even fewer and farther between. In ArtStream’s drama and performing arts classes, workshops, and theatre companies, participants learn skills that apply to all aspects of life, including how to be present, pay attention, listen to instructions, participate in the activities that the class is doing that day, and perhaps most important of all, build friendships. 

Performance is transformative for every actor. This is also true for people with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, including Autism. Whether in classes, workshops, or rehearsals, ArtStreamers play theatrical games that require them to listen, to engage, to communicate, and to collaborate with each other; and improvisational games that teach them how to make eye contact, think on their feet, make connections, synthesize information, and solve problems. ArtStream’s demanding and very entertaining process encourages ArtStreamers to discover their creativity and strengths, and perform with confidence! What’s more, at ArtStream, our participants create their own scenes, dances, and songs for their performances, whereas most other theaters and non-profits serve people with disabilities by enacting or adapting plays or scenes written by professional playwrights. This is the “ArtStream difference.” 

A 55-year-old, 15-year ArtStream veteran expressed it better than we could ourselves: “I don’t get nervous on stage because I feel such happiness. I like to perform 24 hours a day! I love this place! ArtStream is making me happy!” 

ArtStream’s collaborative programming gives people with interest, talent, drive, and creativity – but few opportunities – a unique chance to build skills they will carry with them throughout their lifetimes. Our retention rate is 90%, attesting to the effectiveness of our organization in carrying out our mission.
