We believe in investing in communities to end AIDS 
 
 Aidsfonds has been established for 35 years. Our organization began when a group of gay men in Amsterdam wanted to do something for their friends dying of AIDS in 1985. Aidsfonds started as a small fundraising campaign for Christmas hampers; it developed into a global player in the field of HIV/AIDS. In 1917 the Dutch sociality that would evolve into the STI Foundation was established. In 2004 Aidsfonds and the STI Foundation combined forces: since then Aidsfonds - Soa Aids Netherlands is working towards a world without STIs and AIDS. We are focusing the AIDS response on those population groups who are affected the most due to stigma and discrimination: members of the LGBTQI+ group, sex workers and people who use drugs. Other groups we focus on are adolescents; and women and children in sub-Sahara Africa. Mission Internationally, our mission is to end AIDS by 2030, an objective that is part of the United Nations SDG's on Health. In the Netherlands, we work on a drastic reduction in HIV and other STIs.  We are committed to five long term goals: 1) radical reduction of STI's and HIV in the Netherlands, 2) < 200,000 new HIV infections globally, 3) everyone living with HIV worldwide receives treatment, 4) a cure for HIV, and 5) awareness, support and full funding of the AIDS response. Goals Aidsfonds – Soa Aids Nederland has five organizational strategic goals for 2018-2021: 1) reach zero new HIV infections in the Netherlands, 2) reach 3 million young people, of which 2 million young women, with a high risk of HIV. So that they know their status and have access to resources and knowledge to prevent an HIV infection, 3) ensure access to treatment for 40,000 children, 100,000 adolescents and young women and 100,000 persons from key populations living with HIV, 4) accelerate the cure for HIV by raising and mobilizing 10 million euros for groundbreaking scientific research in the Netherlands, and 5) increased funding for the international HIV response, of which 57 million euros available for the organizational goals of Aidsfonds – Soa Aids Netherlands.
