Foothills Animal Shelter works to make life better for pets and people, serving more than 8,500 animals each year.

Foothills Animal Shelter is dedicated to providing support to our surrounding community through education, services that strengthen the human-pet bond, and humane care for the animals we serve.  As a loyal companion of Foothills Animal Shelter, the mission of the Friends of Foothills Animal Shelter is to raise funds to support the Shelter's lifesaving work.

**Our History**

Originally founded in 1976, the Jefferson Animal Shelter initially served as the impound facility for unincorporated Jefferson County and the cities of Arvada, Lakewood and Wheat Ridge. In 1994, the shelter grew to meet the increased demands on the facility, changing its name to Table Mountain Animal Center and expanding services to the city of Golden. In early August of 2010, Table Mountain Animal Center became Foothills Animal Shelter and moved to its new location at 580 McIntyre adjacent to the Jefferson County Fairgrounds. Today, Foothills Animal Shelter provides companion animal shelter services to all of Jefferson County.

In August of 2014, the Friends of Foothills Animal Shelter was incorporated and received 501c3 status. Friends of Foothills Animal Shelter serves as a loyal companion to Foothills Animal Shelter, raising funds to further support the Shelter's life-saving work.

Promotes the use of the No Kill Equation to help shelters save every healthy, treatable homeless pet.

No Kill Colorado is an 501c3 organization working to improve the Animal Shelter system in Colorado. Thousands of pets are killed each year in Colorado because of the lack of life saving programs that can be implemented without additional cost, and possibly adding revenue to the current funds provided to municipal shelters.

Money doesn't save lives - people do.  But money makes it a heck of a lot easier to reach people.

Promoting adoption and fostering is a major program we campaign for throughout the year.  We successfully have helped organizations get hundreds of animals home from our Home for the Holdiays cmapign every year.

We put a bounty on pets  going to foster or a permanent home.  rganizations that particpate receive $50 from us for every pet 3 or more years old, or at any age with special needs.

Mas Mariposas is US based non-profit that supports the work of La Mariposa in Nicaragua.

La Mariposa is a Spanish School in Nicaragua that uses all its proceeds to support animal projects (animal rescue & sterilization clinics), programs for childrens (after school programs, and therapy for children with disabilities), environmental projects (reforestation), and community support and relief.
