- $5,000
In the urban slums of Ahmedabad, countless widows, elderly individuals, and persons with disabilities live under extreme poverty, often struggling to secure even two meals a day. Many have no steady source of income and face significant challenges in mobility, limiting their ability to work or access essential resources. This daily struggle with hunger and malnutrition not only weakens their physical health but also erodes their dignity and sense of self-worth.
Kamala (name changed), a 75-year-old widow, has been living in a slum area for the past 50 years. She suffers from diabetes and high blood pressure. Her only son suffers from TB and, due to poor health, has not been able to work for a long time. With no earning members, it's very difficult for them to survive, and at times, they have to resort to begging for food for the day.
How We Step In
Saath provides monthly essential food kits to the most vulnerable households. These kits ensure that families have access to nutritious meals without worrying about their next source of food. In doing so, we bring relief, dignity, and hope to those who need it most.
Each essential ration kit, valued at INR 1,500, supports a family of 3 to 4 members for an entire month. It includes: Rice, Wheat Flour, Pulses, Cooking Oil, Sugar, Salt, Tea Powder, Jaggery, Spices, Besan, Poha/Semolina, and Soap.
Impact
The project improves health and nutrition, reducing hunger-related illnesses among vulnerable families. Consistent food support eases financial stress, enhances dignity, and empowers widows, the elderly, and disabled individuals. Stronger, healthier families contribute to resilient and thriving communities
So far, Saath has supported 8,500+ individuals across multiple locations, including Ahmedabad, Sanand, Jaipur, Varanasi, and Mundra, bringing relief to families facing hunger and malnutrition.
Through ‘Ration with Compassion’, your support can ensure families like Kamala’s have access to essential food supplies and live with dignity.
