Support parents to help children improve learning outcomes

At Saajha, we believe that every parent can positively influence their child's education, regardless of their background. We work with parents, especially mothers, of children aged 5 to 11 to help them actively support learning at home. Many children in India struggle with basic reading and math skills, which are critical for success in school and beyond.

Our work focuses on helping parents support these Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) skills at home through simple, accessible tools and personal guidance. We identify and train local mothers to become community champions who reach out to other parents through home visits and school events.

Our team members, often mothers themselves, speak with parents in one-on-one introductory calls to understand their challenges and offer support. We then send personalized learning content through WhatsApp and follow up with ongoing support through calls and a chatbot, helping parents guide their children’s learning in practical ways.

Our impact so far:

  • More than 240,000 parents have joined our network
  • Over 12,500 children showed improvement in reading and numeracy in the past year
  • Around 8 million WhatsApp messages were exchanged
  • More than 50,000 hours of phone-based support were delivered to parents
