Ron Kittle is from Gary, IN. After graduating from Gary Wirt, he worked in the steel mills of NW Indiana. Gaining strength as an ironworker, Ron went on to become one of the most powerful hitters in the American League during the mid-1980’s. As a member of the 1983 A.L. West Champion “Winning Ugly” Chicago White Sox, “Kitty” hit 35 home runs and knocked in 100 runs, leading him to receiving the American League Rookie of the Year award. He followed up in 1984 with 32 homers and 26 in 1985. His record breaking roof shot home runs at old Comiskey Park are legendary among White Sox fans. In 843 career games with four Major League teams, Kittle finished with 176 home runs and 460 RBI.
