Restless Books—an organization that actively supports the right to read what we want to read, to question, to seek out voices beyond our own—urgently needs your financial support. Last year, our supporters’ extraordinary gifts helped us fill the gap left by** the loss of our 2026 funding from the National Endowment for the Arts. This year, the NEA did not award a grant to Restless Books. It is no surprise that bringing global literature to American readers, elevating immigrant voices, and supporting queer literature are not among federal priorities. We hope to raise $20,000 by the end of the year to cover the shortfall from another funding cycle.**
It is crucial that we give voice to immigrant writers and work from other parts of the world. Donations from supporters like you will grant us another day and allow the Restless Books superb staff to do their job: publishing books that encourage difficult yet necessary conversations, books that matter, books that change minds.
Keep an eye out for an array of thought-provoking books scheduled for the coming year. They include uproarious Bulgarian-American immigrant stories (People Who Live Alone Talk Too Much), an untold history of global soccer just in time for the 2026 World Cup (The Game at the End of the World), a queer Palestinian love story (Eden at Dawn), and a face-off between a corporate behemoth and one desperate man (Employee No. 9). From our children’s imprint Yonder, look out for two teens in search of a painting that holds a family secret (The Necklace of Seven Souls) as well as picture books about two refugee children whose dream-houses protect them wherever they go (Home Is a Door We Carry) and a girl whose time-obsessed mother turns into a clock (The Clock Spa).
Please consider supporting Restless Books. We need readers like you, who continue to seek out, consider, question, discuss, and support the ultimate act of citizenship: active engagement with the world. With your help, we can make sure these essential books continue to appear.
